Many people stationed overseas use Ebay to get great products that are not available at their location. Here are some helpful hints for sellers when shipping to an APO. When shipping to an APO all mail stays within the USPS so no international rates apply. APO stands for Army Post Office. If you are using the paypal label address system it may not print to an APO. If it does not print the box must be hand addressed and a customs form attached. A customs form can be obtained free of charge at any post office. If the box is going to military installations in Europe or to the Middle East postage is paid to NY. If the box is going to military installations in the Pacific postage is paid to CA.
Shipping costs to an APO are very reasonable. If a seller choses not to ship to an APO please state that in your ad. This will clear up any confusion for the APO buyer. An APO address is considered shipment within the United States. Also when shipping to an APO the mail time takes considerably longer than mail shipped within the continental United States. Priority mail can take up two and half weeks. Surface mail can take up to eight weeks. APOs can not accept packages shipped via UPS, Fed-Ex or any other mail service outside of the USPS due to the security restrictions of mailing an item to a military installation. The security restrictions are why a customs form needs to be attached even though all mail stays within the USPS channels. Thank you to all of the wonderful sellers who ship to APOs and support those of us who serve our country and are stationed far from home.
