Here are some tips you might find useful.
1) Re packaging: There are some excellent sources for LP-specific boxes. An eBay or Google search for "LP mailer" will reveal them. Very strong corrugated cardboard, they can be sized to fit from one up to six LP's together.
"HOT" TIP #1: Invest in a $5.00 hot glue gun at Walmart. Once you get the hang of closing your packages with hot glue, you'll never buy another roll of tape (much cheaper too!)
2) A nice finishing touch is to make sure the LP doesn't directly touch the inner sides of the jacket. They often become abrasive from old dust. Google "LP Sleeve" for source.
3) HOT TIP #2: NEVER, EVER use Media Mail to ship LP's-- even though you can legally. (I shipped a one-of-a-kind surviving rarity -- first album by Brazil's legendary guitarist, Bola Sête -- to a studio in Miami to be remastered into a DVD. Yes, you guessed it. I learned that records always land slantwise in the bottoms of Media Mail bins . . . and 50 lb. book boxes always land on top.) Very tough refunding $475 to the client . . . with no recourse to USPS.
Good Luck,
