I want to write a short note to let all of you know a very important message about shipping theft. I have heard people talk about it, and had read about it in the Newspaper.
This last week, it happened to me. I had ordered an item from a major catalog house, nothing expensive, but something I liked and I wanted. When I got my package, opened it, the box that was supposed to have a ring, was empty, all the other contents were in the small paper mailer. I called the CSR of the company, she immediatly asked if the package had been tampered with, on further investigation of the package, I could see that it had been opened. The outer package had been very carefully opened, it was a self seal envelope, the inner package where my ring box was, had also been sliced opened and then resealed by folding over the bag and resealing with glue. The outer package was resealed the same way. I would never have noticed any of this had the CSR not been very familiar with shipping theft. She said it was becoming almost a daily occurance and would send me another ring!
A few suggestions for your eBay mailings have been offered to me and I will pass them on to you. If you are boxing, use extra brown tape or the heavy duty mailing tape on all seams of box. This makes it difficult for someone to get into the box unnoticed. For those of you, like me who use mostly the priority mailers, do not depend on the self stick flap, put mailing tape over the edge as you seal. I also put mailing tape at the sealed end too.
We are living in a very difficult world these days, and I was told by the CSR of the company I was dealing with, this is almost always done by employees of the shipping companies. So be safe folks, we want our buyers to get what we send, at least I know I do, and I am sure you do too. Thanks for your time and I hope this has helped in some way!
