Here is a quick guide to help ship breakables. Anything collectible or a gift such as clocks, figurines, breakable jars, vintage, lamps, glass, expensive, historical, vases, cell phones, earrings, watches and so on.
Ship in a Box, packaging peanuts and insurance
I always make sure anything that is breakable is shipped in a secure box. You never want to ship breakable in poly or paper envelopes. Just think about how many other items are going on top of your item at the post office. Just because it leaves your home or business fine does not mean that mailing will be fine also.
Scenario:
Your item is well packaged in a clean poly envelope with maybe plastic or shipping peanuts around it. Just enough to keep your item safe as long as it does not end up on the bottom of a USPS shipping cart. If it ends up on the bottom of a cart chances are larger heavier items that may be packaged in boxes could end up tossed on top of your item. Thus breaking your item.
I also suggest adding a breakable sign or sticker to each item that is indeed Breakable. This will help the package to be handled with more care and placed with other breakables. Best advice I can offer is to package in a box with packing peanuts and bubble wrap. USPS offers great deals on Priority Mail packaging within the United States and abroad. Boxes are always Free and are mailed to your address also free of charge!!
Another good idea is to make sure you request that your buyers pay insurance for anything that could be expensive if broken while shipping. Shipping insurance is very cheap and worth using.
Hope this help and Happy Packaging!!!!!! If you ever have a question about shipping please contact me...I have been using Domestic and International Shipping for years. I would be happy to help!!
