Tiered of slow Media Mail and disgruntled customers who wait endlessly for it to arrive?  Then this tip is for you.  Start sending your media items that weight up to 13 oz via First Class Mail.  First class mail delivery times are between 2-3 days on the average and the cost for shipping a CD with a cardboard cover (Based on 2oz First Class Mail) is just .77USD.  Which is much less than the first tier of the media mail scale at $1.59USD.  Now I know your thinking that your media items would not meet the thickness stipulation USPS requires.  Yes, your correct.  There is a with stipulation that states your package must be at least 3/4 inches at its thickest point.  However, I have learned to insert a piece of Styrofoam.  This way the package meets the required thickness and the Styrofoam is virtually weightless. I gather used packing materials so the cost to me is zero.  You can find Styrofoam for harvesting at refrigerator and appliance stores-as well as-furniture and rental retailers.  There is a caution to the trick.  You should cut the sheet of Styrofoam to the same size of the media item.  This works with Books, CD's, DVD's and VHS as well.  The reason why I don't recommend you just throw in a few peanuts or a little chunk of foam is because, you would be providing an uneven surface against your item and should uneven pressure be placed against the package, it could cause the CD to break.  I have used this method to ship well over 200 media items and not one arrived broken.  So, if your looking for a way to speed up your media delivery. Feed your packages a little Styrofoam and off they go at warp speed.
