Shark Jaws and the associated teeth are your best guide to identify a species. Bear in mind that there ARE shark species whose teeth are so similar that Positive Identity is almost, if not entirely impossible.
Most species such as
Tiger Shark
Mako Shark
Great White Shark
Are easy to identify because of their unique teeth. Other species (and I am only naming a few) have such similar teeth to closely related sharks, that other characteristics such as tooth count, serration structure, and dentition placement must all be taken into consideration before making an informed judgement.
A common mistake made by unschooled ichthyologists, is to simply place a name on a specimen without fully researching the true origin. This leads to miss-information being passed on through the collecting community. If you are not sure of the identity of a specimen offered for sale, you should either make it an area of non concern on your part..OR buy from someone whom you can trust.
