The Nokia HF-200 is a compact hands-free unit that can be clipped to the sun visor in a vehicle or placed on a desk in the office. It is the HF-36W type and the marketing model name is the HF-200.
It arrives in a plastic clamshell that contains the HF-200, a DC-4 charging unit, the sun visor clip, multi-lingual user guides and the warranty leaflet.
Getting Started
The first order of business is to charge the HF-200 unit. The charge port is located at the lower left corner of the unit. It accepts the small barrel charger typical of most recent Nokia products. AC-3, AC-5, AC-8 chargers will all do the job nicely. You can also walk out to your vehicle and plug in the DC-4 and use your car's battery to charge the unit. It will take up to 2 and a half hours to charge the battery.
Pairing to your phone
- Switch on the device by depressing the Answer/End button until there is a pleasant deep tone, rather than a beep and the green light begins to flash.
- Turn on the Bluetooth feature of your phone.
- Have your phone search for audio devices.
- Select the HF-200 from the list of devices located by your phone.
- Enter 0000, four zeros, which is the passkey, to pair the HF-200 to your phone.
Your phone may automatically connect or you may have to perform a separate connection step depending on your phone. - The green light will cease flashing and will hold a steady on when you have successfully connected your phone. If you perform this step while connected to the charger the green light will go out until you unplug the power source.
Using the HF-200
From there on it functions as any other handsfree unit. It has to be recharged from time to time to keep it functioning, unlike the HF-33W which drew its power directly from the power outlet in the vehicle. This device offers increased freedom of placement over the plug-in arrangement. With increased freedom comes increased responsibility with finding the right place to install it. The sun visor is a pretty good place if you have visors that can handle the excess weight and are not moved around a great deal.
Controls
The center square pad is the Accept/End pad. The Left wing is the lower volume adjustment and the right wing is the raise volume adjustment. The microphone is located at the upper left corner. This controls placement as much as anything with this device. Aside from the three buttons and the microphone there isn't a whole lot to talk about. When you exit the vehicle you might want to turn off the device. Depress the center button for three seconds and another deep, pleaseant tone will sound, the LED will glow red for a moment and the device is now off.
