Selling your DVDs & VHS

One must first consider the market on Ebay is saturated with dvds and vhs,. there are also tons of illegal dvds and vhs selling. Also there are hundreds in every category shipping from Hong Kong and China. Most but not all from these areas will be listed for .99. The shipping will be outrageous but people will pay. You must figure out a formula for your stock. I'll tell you what my formula was and perhaps that will help you to create your own.

First off, alot of dvds- popular ones sell for $5.00 nowadays in a major retail store. Unless you are selling a very hard to find dvd, second hand dvds should be priced to sell. I usually sold my once previous viewed for $3.50. There were of course brand new released movies I purchased for $16.99 retail that I would turn around and sell, but in todays market, you'll get $9.99 for that dvd.

So I price to sell older(1-2 yrs and older) dvds at $3.50. When selling be descriptive, I would even take a picture of my dvd to insure the buyer knew he/she was getting the real thing. My previous viewed dvds are clean, no scratches or very few. Make certain you mention the condition they are in. Make certain any inserts are mentioned, some dvds have coupon inserts or other media related info. I also mention they will play in USA/CA dvd players only so as to not have someone International bid and expect dvd will play in Europe. Although nowadays players can be worked in such a way in Europe that they can play region one dvds.

Nine times out of ten my dvds sold long before the competition.

Shipping for my stock was 1st class for most dvds in a bubblemailer. I figured in the cost of bubblemailer(.25), bubblewrap(.22) gallon freezer bag(.10). To ship a 7 oz or less dvd it costs-$1.84-$2.20 with delivery confirmation. Everyone of my sales had delivery confirmation on it. Mention your shipping not only in auction but provide in shipping area of your sell it form. Total charged for shipping with included the costs of my supplies for shipping-$4.00. I made anywhere from $1.20-$1.30 on shipping for handling charge.

But the customer was getting a nearly mint- new dvd for about a gallon of gas and they were getting it in clean packaging , within 3 business days, most 2 full business days, right to their front door.

When the masses list in a category in masses something worth  $9.00 drops fast to just a couple dollars. Its not fair, but its part of doing business. After fees for Ebay and Paypal I would profit-$3.50.

But... they take just a couple minutes to list, just a couple minutes to pack and can be mailed right from your mailbox.

I hope this guide is useful to you. Thanks.
