I often encounter a seller that really isn't knowledgeable about what they are selling. They read the box that the item was bought in expecting that the contents match their title. Often times, the original owner just stored the item in a box, any box, to get it off the layout and protect it from damage. Then the unthinkable happens and family is forced to sell the departed persons trains. As a rule, examine the contents thoroughly - there often is a name attached to the item somewhere. Lacking a name on the item, search through the train category to find a similar item and use your skills to describe what you have. Still stumped? Find a seller who has excellent feedback and e-mail them your questions. A picture often helps. Many other sellers are helpful. Then describing your item, learn what excellent, good, fair, and poor condition means. List features special to that item. Metal wheels? Couplers? Sprung trucks? Lights? Limited edition items (often are labeled as such on the box - assuming of course the contents match). Never be afraid to ask. The only dumb question you have is the one left unanswered.
