If you plan to sell or buy your Vonage router on eBay, you may run into some frustrations with the transfer. Here is some information to make the transaction go a little smoother. This guide assumes that the buyer already has an account set up with Vonage.
The buyer of the router should provide the seller with his or her full name and Vonage account number. The seller should then call Vonage to initiate the transfer.
When you call Vonage, they may tell you that once you purchase a Vonage router it is locked to your account forever - even if you cancel it - and is essentially useless to anyone else henceforth. This is not so! Make sure you speak to someone in the Accounts department. Customer Service and Tech Support will having you running in circles. Ask to be transferred if necessary.
Explain the situation to the Accounts person. Tell them you sold your router and provide the new owner's account number and name. Ask them to do a MAC swap. They'll essentially reassociate the MAC address of the router with the new owner's account. You won't need to provide them with the MAC address; they have it on file already.
It will take 24 to 48 hours to do the swap. The new owner's old router will continue to be active until the swap is complete. That way there is no disruption in service. Vonage will also call and email the new owner to confirm this.
