As a long time buyer of mostly records and some hifi equipment I have had many kinds of experiences, good and bad, all have been learning opportunities. I'm an audiophile. Through eBay I learned all about used LP's, sometimes the hard way. Thanks to eBay I have every LP I ever wanted, in fact I have multiple copies after upgrading and I'm trying to sell some, most will be at a loss. As in my career in Software as distributor I learned the vendors perspective, most helpful when I became a supplier. I’m a buyer-oriented seller, the seller I would want to buy from. Anyone that buys anything from me music related shares a special bond; we should enjoy our connections and make any transaction a mutually enjoyable experience. 1st- Know your stuff and be informative to your buyers even when they may not bid. The more informed you are as a seller the more value you add to your items. 2- Not all buyers know "their stuff". Save everyone a lot of problems and use your listings to create informed buyers, the ones that will understand what you are offering and know what they are doing so they wont make mistakes, blame you and ruin your feedback over an unjustifiable cause. 3-Disclose everything that's wrong with an item so you are credible when you state what's right. 4-Encourage and promote the eBay credo and rules of conduct, not all buyers take time to know the ropes. 5-With LP's play test when possible, grade conservatively, use sunlight if possible, don’t even think of anything less then very bright light at all angles, read Goldmine for grading. Look at how top sellers with 99%+ feedback accomplishes such an extraordinary thing considering how subjective used records are. 6. Disclose your reference systems, collectors and audiophiles have very different needs; both should be accommodated as best as possible. Many sellers are not audiophiles and do their best to grade without the highly revealing components that make play testing so useful. An audiophile can buy from a good collector that knows their stuff and collectors will be well served to buy from audiophiles that know the sound virtues of LP’s, which can be dramatic. 7. Be very respectful of customers that are good enough to ask questions even if they have bad news for you. 8. Include insurance in your shipping price, do everyone a favor, some will balk at the added cost, they may go nuts if there is a shipping problem, don’t let that happen. 9. Remember, what ever it is your selling, you may share a passion with the buyer be it records, CD’s Guitars, DVD’s, what ever, share your passion and knowledge, many buyers are not as knowledgeable and will benefit from what you know, visa-versa as well. 10-Have fun, it’s catchy!
