Going outside of Ebay is a bad idea, no matter how bad you need to sell and item. We listed our 5th wheel on Ebay, it never met reserve but we were contacted by the highest bidder and he agreed to meet our reserve price and purchase the RV. After many phone conversations an email with questions, even his considering purchasing our diesel pickup and hitch assembly, we struck a deal on the RV only. Couple so eager to come get it they would drive down from IN, being the good folks they were (his words) they wanted to send a deposit until they could get here. They sent $2000 cashiers check and a tentative date for the following week to pickup and deliver another cashiers check made out to us in the amount of $22000. Four days after they left they send an email they claim our camper finish is ruined by someone using the wrong chemical or not rinsing. They want their money back. The camper was taken from GA to IN by them and then they told us how they took it to their car wash and used a rubbing compound and wax and they were not satisfied with the white gelcoat finish. Our attorney said GA is an AS IN state unless there is an applied or stated warranty. This was a private vehicle, no warranty were given and we had no idea what they had done to the camper. If a buffer had been used by an inexperienced person, serious damage could have taken place..this being over the weekend we could do nothing to speak to the MFG rep to see what we could do. By Sunday evening we get an email stating the good folks have stopped payment on a Certified Bank Check (yes it can be stopped). They had done this on Saturday morning, mind you they are in Indiana, at that time this became a felony when they requested the bank to stop payment. We spent all day on Monday trying to get an answer from our attorney and our bank about if this could happen. The bank said sure they had not been notified yet but it could very easily by them posting a bond thru their bank. By Tuesday they had the funds in the amount of $22000 withdrawn from our account. We had to wait til it happened to press charges. The attorney said try to get it back before we took further measures. We sent them an email telling them they had 24 hours from that moment to return the 5th wheel to GA where the transaction took place or we would press charges against both of them. Indiana police were very helpful in assisting us with what we needed to know to make that happen in the event it was necessary. He did return it by himself. With a couple minutes to spare the guy showed up very indignant insisting it was exactly as we had sold it to him and he wanted his $2000 deposit back too. We had paid off bills and made numerous purchases in the first 4 days. We incurred over $900 in charges to our bank account. The guy left the meeting place and went to the courthouse and filed a civil suit against us for his $2000,filed by himself and his wife(who wast there). We will meet in court in November. While this was transpiring I checked whitepages.com and found they had 17 addresses in their little town...we were very nervous knowing this. We sold this vehicle in good faith, we were very happy with the vehicle but needed to sell it. We even offered to set them up at a campground for the night to insure they were happy with it beforehand. They would not stay they turned around and returned home. Now we will meet him in court next month to resolve the rest of this issue...
