Although I am not the most knowledgeable and experienced collector of vintage golf clubs, I have viewed so many ebay listings where I said to myself, "if I had just a little bit more information, or if the photographs were just a little bit better, I might be interested in buying this club. For this reason, I thought I might humbly share a few thoughts with sellers who may not be familiar with collecting vintage golf clubs:
1. Collectors of vintage golf clubs, as well as other vintage golf memorabilia like to see clear, sharp photographs of the items, especially markings and symbols (see example). A photograph of just a golf club without close up photos of markings is almost useless to a collector. The specific markings, words, symbols, numbers, and in some cases the absence of words/marks can tell a collector volumes about collectible golf clubs.
2. Descriptions of vintage golf clubs should include as much information as possible, including the club maker (if known); where the club was made (if known); overall length; type and condition of shaft (metal, wood, other. Is the shaft unusual, bowed, chipped or damaged); type and condition of the grip (sheepskin, leather, other material/Is the grip original, tight fitting/loose or maybe a replacement); type of clubhead and condition (iron or wood head/Is the head rusted, pitted, tight fit to the shaft/are there bag marks or dings to head/any known repairs).
3. Lastly, any additional provenance regarding the item, as well as a seller's willingness to answer questions is always very welcoming to a golf collector on ebay.
