The following steps will be covered to show you everything you need to know on how to make massive amounts of money selling dvds (the most popular item on ebay):

• Inventory: You will spend the majority of your time trying to find more dvds to sell.
• Listing/Selling: How you display your dvds is very important if you want to attract buyers.
• Questions: How quickly you respond to buyers questions and comments will have a huge impact on how much you sell.
• Shipping: This is the most overlooked part of selling, but used wisely will turn you into a powerseller quickly.
• The Formula that will show you how you will finally make huge profits on ebay!

The Facts:

Lets go over what we know:

1. Dvds sell on ebay like crazy! Someone is always looking for dvds and any title will normally make you money, if the price is good.
2. Dvds sell from .01cent to $3.00 do not overlook this and assume you can sell dvds for $12.00 consistantly.
3. Selling dvds is a VOLUME business.  This means to make a profit you have to sell a lot.  There are pros and cons to both of this that we will discuss later in the research section.
4. Without an inventory and a place to find dvds for cheap, you will not be able to make selling dvds a business.
5. Feedback matters! You need to have a good selling reputation if you plan on making money and having people purchase your products!

Research:

Everyone loves movies, thats a known fact, however different movies sell for different prices and this is something you should consider.  You can easily determine which movies sell for the most money and which sell through with the highest percentage.  Ebay makes this task very simple for you.  At the top right corner of the "my ebay" screen click advanced search, then click the box next to "completely listings only" now type in a title and search.  This is give you the sale price each title sold for and it will show you in green which ones sold and in red which didn't.

There are other programs that you can use to learn even more research that will help you sell dvds.  Things you should consider are: Buy it now vs. Auction listing, Gallery options, Second Categories and other Bonus listing features that can make your dvds stand out.  You also will notice your dvds will sell for more money on certain days, for expample more people are on ebay Sunday night a 6 then they are Wednesday morning at 10.  YOU NEED TO CONSIDER THIS!  Ebay functions on West coast time! Listing on the east coast at 6pm means your auction is going to end on the west coast at 3pm while most people are still at work! THIS IS IMPORTANT! (we will discuss this more in the listing portion)

Selling dvds is a volume business.  You want an average profit of $2-$3 dollars per dvd.  Now this sounds like nothing, however when you begin to sell in greater amounts you will see the amount of money you sell sky rocket!  Do not this you can sell 10 dvds a week and suddenly become your own boss! If you are profitting $2 a dvd and you sell 100 dvds you make $200 profit.  Not bad, but if you sell 1000 dvds a week now you are making $1200 dollars in profit which translates to $4800 profit a month and then $57,600 a year in profit alone.  Now 1000 sounds like a lot, but there are steps you can take to make selling 1000 easy, and I will tell you how!

Inventory:

To sell 1000 dvds a week you will need to a steady flow of inventory, a company you can rely on to purchase dvds in bulk regularly.  Or you can try to purchase bulk dvd lots on ebay itself, this will also add to your feedback rating and is something to keep in mind.

Hints:

• If the seller of dvds doesn't list the titles...DO NOT BUY THEM!
• If they have a low feedback rating...DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
• Do not purchase dvds in bulk where each dvd ends up costing more than $3-$4 YOU WILL NOT TURN A PROFIT!

Most companies that sell dvds in wholesale value are hard to find.  These hidden suppliers are what you truely need to spend a lot of time looking for! Once you find one, you are golden and will become a powerseller in no time! But...I promise you this will be the hardest part of developing your business and you will spend the majority of your time searching for inventory to sell, once you have it the selling is the easy part! AND YOU WILL MAKE MONEY!

Hint: Buy in small quantities from suppliers first! What you sell will build your seller reputation more than anything else! You need good products but be patient, purchase in a small amount to make sure your products are the real deal!  DO NOT TRY TO SELL BOOTLEGS your feedback and reputation will be destroyed!

Listing and Selling:

Welcome to the easy part! Your will do the least amount of work here if your research and inventory are taken care of properly!  This is where you make money! Be excited!!!

Seller Identity:

1. Make ebay username creative, but make it something easy to remember and something that explains what your doing for example: Dansdvds, Rodneys Movies, Emily's Media...Let the buyer know you are dedicated to what you are doing.
2. Make an about me page.  Search under the help menu to find out how to create an about me page.  This is a great way to develop a relationship with potential buyers, let them learn about you, what you are trying to do, and it is a great way to help build trust.  You do not what them to this you are someone scamming them out of their money!
3. You are trying to develop a brand.  This about logos.  Mobile, Target, Bestbuy, Walmart; each has its own brand that the majority of people across the globe can recognize.  With each sale you want your brand name and logo on everything, you want people to know they bought from dans dvds, not just ebay. 

Listing Items:

1. Auction! Auction! Auction! Sell with all auctions all the time, it is the most common way to make money! Start your listings are anywhere from .01 to .99 cents.  My dvds have all started at .99 cents and have all sold well.  Use 5 or 7 day auctions and you will not need to add any extra gizmos to attract customers. 
2. This is a great opportunity for spreading your brand! Do not list something like "The matrix: New Sealed dvd" MAKE IT YOURS! "Dans: The Matrix: new sealed dvd"  Each listing is another chance to get your name out there! It is marketing without having to pay for marketing!
3. Factor in your ebay fees!  If you do not consider how much each listing is then your net profit is going to be way off! List each as low as possible, i.e. .20 cents or the fees will build up on you. 

Very Important!!!

Selling Tips: AUTOMATE EVERYTHING!!! There are plenty of ways to have ebay do things for you...USE THEM!!!  You want to automate emails and feedback all of which can be done through ebay.  Set feedback to be left after payment has been recieved or after feedback was left for you.  Payment received, auction won, payment reminder, and feedback reminder emails should all be automated to make your life easier.  Once your selling 1000-2000 dvds per week you will be very thankful you don't have to send out emails on your own!

Change your email password, change your paypal password, and change your ebay password regularly to ensure security!

All your listings should include your logo, payment information, shipping information, and information about you and your business.  Always include your brand in an attempt to spread your business identity.  You can use different auction software generate professional looking listings easily.  Programs like auctiva and turbo lister are free versions of auction software that can make listing multiple items very easy. 

Turbo Lister allows you to edit all of your listings at the same time. For example, you create you 150 listings for the day each with different titles: Dans: Matrix new sealed, Dans: Batman new sealed, Dans: Jungle Book new sealed....and so on.  Then you can select all of them, add all of your information in html code or word format into the description, select the starting price for all of them (.99 cents), select the auction period (5 or 7 days), and then select payment and shipping options.  You have now completely 150 listings and you only had to create 150 times individually.

Very Important (payment):

• Use Paypal. It is secure and trusted by the ebay community, get an account, paypal.com
• You can accept Money Orders, but realize it will take longer to receive payment.
• Do not accept personal checks, this will cause to much work for you because you will have to wait for the check to clear.
• DO NOT! I repeat...DO NOT SHIP BEFORE RECEIVING PAYMENT!

Shipping:

Hidden shipping charges are currently a must for ebay sellers.  Ebay itself is well aware of the wide spread use of hidden shipping charges and hasn't done anything to stop them.  This is very important if you want to make money! People are able to sell their dvds for .99 cents and make a profit because they charge $3.95 and it only costs 1.25 to ship it.  Want to know how? Fine....I'll let the secret out! This will make or break anyone trying to sell dvds!

USPS gives free boxes and shipping supplies to anyone off of their website, I am well aware that you could order 500 priority mail self sealing boxes and send out your items without having to pay for shipping supplies.  DO NOT DO THIS!  Priority mail means it's going to cost you $4.05 so now you are making no money off of the shipping and handling! THAT IS BAD!

I suggest charging $3.95, a very reasonable price that isn't going to stop anyone from buying your dvds, then I suggest you have combined shipping at $2.00 for each additional dvd.  Combined shipping is something buyers love and something you want to be apart of!

So here's the secret! Jiffy lite bubble envelops!  They are light and they are cheap on ebay! The money they will end up costing you, you will make up and then some by using them instead of UPSP products.

The provider: Use USPS First Class mail, it will take 2-5 business days and it will only cost you 1.25 with the average weight of a dvd.  So now you have charged 3.95 for shipping and you then shipped it for 1.25.  You just made 2.70 on shipping alone!!!

So lets review:  USPS First Class with Jiffy Lite Bubble Envelops for about $1.25 and you make $2.70 on shipping! This covers your ebay fees and paypal fees and makes you more than half of that $2-$3 profit margin we discussed!

Here it is! The math that will show you how successful you will/can be!

Your .99 cent auction, your shipping, your fees and your cost of inventory, lets see how you do!

Lets say your .99 cent auctions average out to selling each time for $1.60 after the 7 days.  So 1000 listings all end at your average $1.60.  1000 x $1.60 = $1600

Each of your 1000 listings end up selling and you charge the $3.95 for shipping! 1000 x $3.95 = $3950

Your total sales per week: 1600 + 3950 = $5550.00

Now for your expenses:

• Inventory: 1000 dvds at about $3.00 = 1000 x 3.00 = $3000
• Ebay Listing Fees: 1000 dvds at .20 cents per auction = 1000 x .20 = $20.00
• Ebay Sales Fee: 1000 dvds sold for $1.60 each, ebay takes 5.25% = 1000 x 1.60 = 1600 x .0525 = $84.00
• Shipping Expenses: 1000 dvds shipped at $1.25 = 1000 x 1.25 = $1250.00
• Total Expenses = 3000 + 1250 + 84 + 20 = $4354

NET PROFIT : 5550 - 4354 = about $1200 per week This will quickly turn you into a powerseller!

As you can see if you put the work in and make smart purchases of your inventory you can end up making money quickly!

The more you sell the more you make!

If you decide to put even more work in and attempt to sell 2000 dvds a week your profit margin will more then double!
