I would like to offer a few suggestions for those who are looking to sell children's clothing on Ebay.
I was nervous when I first started out, so if you are feeling anxious, it is common. I took the plunge, and the first few months went well, but I made mistakes and learned from them to get to where I am now. I make a profit every month, and I truly enjoy selling on Ebay. If you are at the point where you are deciding to sell on Ebay, then please read the following suggestions that I think will help you out.
*First, sell something you know about. If you are going to sell children's clothing, sell clothing you are familiar with based on your previous buying. If you don't have any girls, don't start your selling experience by buying a bunch of girls clothing. If a customer was to email and ask if the item you are selling typically runs large or small for its size, you would not know how to answer the question because you haven't had experience in how it runs in size. For instance, I have found that Carters ran small for its size when my son was an infant. If someone where to email and ask if it ran small for its size I could answer an email with honesty, because I truly new from my experience in buying Carters. Also, in having previous personal experience in what you sell, you will have a good idea of what is "in" and what buyers wouldn't be interested in. Not everything on eBay sells, know what it is you are selling and what the demand for the item will be.
*Start out by selling items that you already own. I sold things from around the house to get acquainted with eBay and gain expereince with the different listing options. I sold leapster games, playstation 2 games, dvds, EUC children's clothing from my own childs closets, and other household items I was no longer using, but were in great shape. Get experience under your belt and make a little money with things you have lying around the house. You have nothing to lose and you don't have to invest in money for your inventory!
*Sell something you can use if it doesn't sell. I started out selling Boys Back to School Lots in one of my son's sizes becuase I knew if the items didn't sell, he could wear them. If you have a daughter who is 6, buy Gymboree or other brand name clothing in her size. What doesn't sell is hers to wear. Also think about buying items that would make great gifts if they don't sell. For instance, I always buy my family an array of christmas gifts such as kitchen items like nice pots and pans. Amazon frequently has Calaphon on sale for a fraction of the price. Last year I bought some pots and pans that had a retail value of $119 for only $24.99. I intended on giving them as the gifts, but decided to see if they would bring a little extra money selling them on Ebay. I listed and made a profit. But,I knew if I had not sold them, I still could have used them for gifts.
*Sell something you would use if it didn't sell. I love Bath and Body Works soaps, lotions and such. They run many sales throughout the year, and this is how I can afford to use their products as my daily soaps and lotions, not just special occasion. I usually buy as much as I can when it is on sale and last year I actaully sold some on eBay in "gift sets" and made a profit. Just remember, make sure it is a scent that you would like, if it doesn't sell, you can treat yourself, or use them as gifts for teachers, girlfriends, etc... I actaully can buy Bath and Body Works on sale and re-sell them on eBay for enough profit to afford keeping a few each time "free".
*Start small with your investment, don't go all out and blow all your savings. It does take time to get a hang of what sells, when it sells, and how to list items. You will start to get the hang of it, and then you will know what items you want to sell more of based on your experience. If you buy a large amount and jump into it, you will HONESTLY feel overwhelmed and frustrated when it doesn't all sell right away and begin to feel discouraged. You might even feel desperate to try and sell everything to get your money back and take a loss trying to get everything sold. Ebay success does come with time, so make sure you factor that in.
Use my idea of selling items you already have around the house to get your "starter cash". In selling my son's no- longer-played-with games, I was able to get some cash together to buy some new inventory to start up my store. NO loss of money to me because I invested money I earned selling unused / unplayed items that were already in my home.
Good Luck
