Sellers Charging Excessive Shipping vs Buyer Protection

Just a quick note we wanted to address regarding Sellers who make a fortune charging Excessive Shipping/Handling Charges and also circumvent paying the proper eBay Fees.

Please consider when deciding to purchase from a Seller that charges
Excessive Shipping, that you have no purchase protection. Most
Sellers do not credit shipping charges for returns, and neither does
eBay/PayPal. So say you win a .99 item, and shipping is $79.99. If
you're dissatisfied with your purchase, and want a refund, most will
gladly give you your .99 purchase amount back. So technically, you're
out $79.99, not to mention you(the buyer) has to pay to have the item
shipped back to thr seller. We have seen this personally happen with
Sellers we know. Yes, the Seller is now vulnerable to Negative
Feedback, but would be mutually withdrawn by eBay, or even
SquareTrade. In these cases, the buyer takes all of the risks. We
recommend buying only from honest/fair sellers.

You're better off to buy from Honest Sellers, which insures an Honest Transaction and also Customer Service if needed once you receive your item(s). By purchasing from High-Shipping Sellers, you are supporting the Sellers acts of circumventing eBay fees, which in turn will raise eBay charges to the honest sellers. Generally, shipping is honest when charged 25-30% over USPS/UPS/Fed-Ex cost, as Sellers have the following costs: labels, ink, supplies and materials, travel expenses/gasoline usage, labor costs, PayPal fees being charged to the Seller on the shipping amount they receive(whcih also goes for shipping insurance, etc). PayPal generally charges 3-5% depending on the Sellers Pricing Tier. For instance, if a Seller charges $8.10 for actual shipping, they are losing right off the bat because PayPal charges up to 5% of that($0.42), not to mention the use of printer ink, shipping labels, boxes/envelopes, packing peanuts/paper, packing tape, labels, gasoline usage, and labor costs to package the item(s) and run to the Post Office and wait in line to mail your item(s). Charging 25-30% for handling is most reasonable, yet most of the time doesnt end up covering the Sellers expenses. There are many Sellers losing much money on shipping attempting to be most honest, while on the otherhand there are Sellers that making a 5-figure income on overcharging. Sellers charging $6.99 to ship a DVD is far beyond the [fair] handling charge, and this also goes for Sellers whom ship 1-2 oz items via USPS 1st Class in a standard white business envelope and charge $7.99 shipping. Buying from Honest Sellers is a better investment for yourself, and for the Seller.

Shipping  Example:

CD for $1.00 with $7.00 Shipping is NOT recommended.

CD for $5.00 with $3.00 Shipping is RECOMMENDED.

Combined Shipping Example:

DVD Shipping of $5.99 Media Mail/Standard Flat Rate with each additional DVD shipped for $3.99 each is NOT recommended.

DVD Shipping of $3.99 Media Mail/Standard Flat Rate with each additional DVD shipped for $2.00 each is RECOMMENDED.

Priority Mail Flat Rate Example:

Charging $18.99+ to ship several small items in a Flat Rate Priority ($8.10) box is NOT recommended.

This also goes for Sellers who [offer] a Combined Shipping Discount, which in turn ends up being a savings of less than 10% once you purchase the items. A Combined Shipping Discount should be quoted at approximately a 50%+ discount, when shipped with similar items(CD's, DVD's, Books) of the same weight.

Why should you pay $12.00 or more to have three DVD's or CD's shipped via USPS Media Mail or even USPS Priority Mail(if U.S. 48 to U.S. 48)?

Now on the otherhand, there are Sellers who offer Free Shipping. For
instance, there is an item we are currently looking to buy for
$100.00 with Free US Shipping. The details of the auction are
somewhat vague, but IF we happened to buy this item and feel we were
mislead by the auction details, we can return it for a full $100.00
refund, and the [Seller] would be out the shipping charges. So, he
would end up paying 200% to get his item back. Not to mention that
the Seller is now paying eBay Fees on the shipping charges, since
they are included in the bid price. Honestly, with this item we are
looking at, shipping is approx $55.00-$85.00, so the Seller is not making a
dime on the item, but 'risking' paying out over 200% of the items
value. The $15.00 difference plus some will go to eBay and PayPal.
The Seller has a good eBay Foundation, so Im not sure what they were
thinking when the posted the auction, but I guess sometimes you win,
sometimes you lose.

Thank you for reading our Guide, and we hope this helps!

Have a Great Day!!!
