On eBay it is a Dog-Eat-Dog World for both Bidders and Sellers
A good seller works very hard at trying to get your bid and your business.
- They have to shop, take pictures, upload them, crop the pictures, write an acurate clear description, make the auction appealing with templates, all that time and effort and then to list it on eBay (hopefully without a glitch).
- The seller spends money on the item, computer equiptment and camera, staging area for pictures, photo hosting services, and eBay fees - just to list their item in hopes someone will bid on it.
- During the auction, the seller answers questions that potential bidders may have.
- When the auction is over the seller sends an invoice, quickly packs the item carefully (sometimes as if if where their own baby...that's what my DH does), takes the item to the post office and ships it on it's merry way to the buyer.
- More money to be spent: end of auction fees, paypal fees, packing supplies (boxes, envelopes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, bagged air, paper, tape, etc..), postage fees and gas.
- The seller then leaves you feedback, contacts you to make sure you are happy and takes care of the occasional problem.
After all of that, they want you back! Many sellers will offer incentives to make you a repeat customer. Heck they have gone through all of that above work and they want to build a good customer base. Just like the bidder wants to buy from a reputable seller, the seller wants to sell to a reputable buyer. So they want to keep the good customers coming back again and again.
Some things sellers do to get you to come back to them:
- They have a store on eBay so you have a wide slection to chose from. They keep it well stocked and add new items all the time.
- They offer you money off on your next purchase.
- They send free gifts with your order.
- A few (like us, My-Treasures) have special offerings to repeat buyers. We have a special group on eBay where our customers (only the selected special ones) can go on a daily bases and find special deals just for them. We offer shipping discounts, money offer, free shipping, special gifts everyday to our group members.
- eBay allows you to add a seller to your "Favorite Sellers" list. When you find a seller that treats you like you ought to be treated, I suggest adding them to your favorites and frequenntly check out their auctions.
