Not all tanning lotions are created equally. The phrase "You get what you pay for" can certainly be true in the vast selection of tanning lotions. You may see some very catchy names that make you want to grab a bottle and start lathering up but before you get inspired by a clever marketing team, get to know the product inside the fancy bottle.

First know your level of endurance. Are you an experienced tanner stuck at a plateau and just can't achieve the color you desire or have you yet to expereince your first trip to a salon.

Naturally, the best advise can be to read the label. Many will say right on it that it is intended for experienced tanners and you would certainly know if you are or are not, but for those who are newbies you should know that tanning beds and booths can be intense and the lotions are made to enhance the experience and get you as dark as possible. There is no sunblock in these lotions. In fact, some are made with "sizzle" which will cause a reddening of the skin that can last from one to several hours, depending on your skin and experience. Sizzle formulas are not intended for the face. Some are made specifically for the face like California Tan's new CT Seven Face. Some are made just for your legs. Other lotions are made for all over with a cooling agent that may make the expereince more comfortable since it does get hot under the lamps.

For the experienced tanner, better is just better. You're beyond trying to get away with the cheap stuff. You want a really good tan that will last and you're probably going to a salon on a regular basis so skin protection is important to maintain. Hopefully you are also following your tanning session with a good moisturizer as well. This will not only replenish your skin but will make your tan last longer.

The latest CT Seven Bronzer Maximizer Step2 is the best you can get in my opinion. Whether you are maintaining a fabulous tan or are getting a great base before the summer, California Tan knows tanning and stays consistantly at the top of the market. Designer Skin products are also top notch and I recommend them as well.

What I have found for my clients as well as myself is that trying a new lotion can really have dramatic results if you are feeling like your usual lotion is letting you down. Every once-in-a-while I try something new. Not only is it fun but my tan gets a little boost as long as I am staying with a good quality brand that is simular in formula. Most of you have probably already decided if you love the sizzle or just can't tan without that cooling sensation. I like the instant gratification of a bronzer. We all have our thing. Stick with what you like but don't be afraid to explore. New for 2006 is CT Seven FACE which has the industry buzzing.

For the new salon tanner, relax and enjoy but take it slow. Tans look best when acheived gradually by starting with just a few minutes to prime your skin. Use a quality lotion and be sure to moisturize afterwards. Your salon should have a package deal so you can pay one price for many visits or unlimited visits for a certain length of time, usually one month. With a maximum of 15 minutes for an experienced tanner, understand that 5 minutes can make a difference to skin that never experienced the intensity of the tanning bed or booth. Generally the stand-up booths are stronger than the lay-down beds.

I would also like to mention that eye protection should be worn by EVERYONE. We are giving free peepers with every purchase of CT Seven Bronzer Step2 and will hopefully be able to continue that promotion for the rest of 2006. It's just part of the gear that is necessary like a parachute for a skydiver or seatbelts on a race car driver.

IMPORTANT WARNING: be sure to stay with quality manufacturers (California Tan, Designer Skin, Australian Gold, Swedish Beauty to name a few) and make sure if you are buying it on eBay that the merchant has an EXCELLENT RATING and FEEDBACK. There is too much fraud with knock off lotions to take a chance with your skin. You buy nice clothes and take care of them so it looks great everytime you wear it. Tanning is an investment in yourself. You'll attract attention with your georgeous tan and if you work in the public eye, it could even help your career. It may take a few extra minutes and even cost a few extra bucks but honestly, you're worth it!

Enjoy, Relax and look GREAT!
