My name is Scott. I have for all my life been a sewing machine repairman. I love my work, always have and I hope I am able to repair a sewing machine on the morning of the very day I am called to meet my maker. I recall the period of time if I mentioned a sewing machine the first words in reply were "NO ONE SEWS ANY MORE". As a note, A very large portion of the growth in the Chinese economy is credited to the production of new sewing machines for export.

I have a goal of not just fixing a sewing machine but to make corrections in this industry, returning sewing education on a national level as a proven tool supporting basic learning methods and life skills.

I have decided to limit my SINGER store hours to 2 days a week Mondays 10-5 closed for lunch and Thursday's 10-5 closed for lunch. I have sold all my Janome 11000, Singer XL6000,  Pfaff,  &Vikings then filed away my embroidery collection of 39,000 digitized designs. Its impossible for me to recommend a sewing machine costing $7,000.00, soon obsolete usually requiring expensive repairs before retiring it debt. Singer Invented many things like time payments and designed obsolesce but the featherweight was designed before those improvements.

I think a sewing machine should last 3 generations not  3 years. I have been the "repairman" here since 1963. Now its just me in a 4 story building  and enough sewing machines to rebuild allowing me to limit my activities to Featherweight  restoration. To me getting a used Featherweight is like finding a 1964 corvette fuelie convertible setting in a barn. They are truely both dream machines.

Now we do not buy a 43 year old sports car or featherweight up to 73 years old very often. But when you do and its yours you want it perfect because its your dream and the more you enjoy it the more you care for and maintain it as a investment it can become worth more valuable than the investment it represents.

I enjoy taking a featherweight and making it new again. I enjoy leaving the motor off and installing a hand crank. Autistic children enjoy the light as a night light and just cranking the machine. I know it isnt sewing but it is learning. Toward my degree I have proposed a variety of measurement tools in support of existing interventions called (QPPSR) Quantitative Psychometric Polymorphism Synergy Research. Accepting  the opportunity to create a praxis intervention with systematic methodology to support and document for rapid prototyping of educational modification. With retained long term memory interacting with the featherweight  maintains a communication port allowing financial  &,medical  stability in the support of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

When I complete a restoration of a featherweight I TEST IT WITH A SIZE 9 NEEDLE,  USING EMBROIDERY THREAD at full speed with a leather belt doubled down to a piece of silk, that is a quality tool worthy of collecting and enjoying and sharing. You can restore yours to any level you desire. Clean, oil, and adjust its ready to enjoy. I perfer to disassemble the machine clean the frame with glass beads and walnut shells. Because of age some frames or castings have issues. I start with 50 machines disassemble for blasting. With a bare frame it can be painted inside and out protecting and enhancing the appearance of the featherweight. Because I desire a consistent product and having a bare frame we can powder coat it black. That does not limit the color scheme, just protecting it like a bullitt proof vest to protect this dream machine with the goal of 100 years of consistent use. We can paint over powder coat but we can not powder coat over paint.

Bid on one today, fix it up its fun. If you need information its available just ask. The only wrong decision you can make selecting  a Featherweight is waiting. Do not wait for the perfect used featherweight, if thats what you want buy a rebuilt one from me. Pick one, warts and all because the more you use it the better looking it gets. The vintage featherweight you win today will never be that inexpensive again.

Now your home work in preparation of your new collectable vintage Featherweight. 2 old tooth brushes, 1 bottle of barasso, 1 medium towel and a pair of shoe strings.  Oil WD 40 is good, 2 medium sized screw drivers from sears and a pair of scissors. When your featherweight arrives take the terry hand towel design a tool roll. Fold the bottom 1/4 of the towl onto its self creating a pocket to hold your tools. Sew the shoe laces into either end 1 near the top and one near the bottom. Sew straight lines into the towl to hold the tools. When you have polished  your Featherweight and sewn your tool roll, you have restored a treasure.  If you paid somewhere around $200.00 for the machine I suspect you have increased the value close to $300.00 and have learned what to look for if you choose to release this treasure to a good home and restore your next featherweight.  I will have diplomas created and offered free to you in honor of your restoration project. Since you endured this GUIDE I offer to share my experence with you, feel free to write and I will respond.
