4.   Ft. Funston - Skyline Blvd

This is my dog Einstein's favorite place.  In a town where you pay by the square inch, this is one of two parks you can get lost in.  It sits right on the ocean atop some pretty high cliffs.  Here you will find a mix of dogs, dog lovers, hang-gliders and beach bums like me.  This is an "off leash" park where your dog can run and make friends.  I would stick to the roads and paths your first time;  the wrong turn could quickly take you off the edge of a cliff!

Ft. Funston used to be a military installation during WWII and many of the battlements are still there.  From here you can see all the way up and down the coast.  From the Marin Headlands on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge down to Pacifica and Devils Slide.  On a clear day you can also see the Farrallon Islands out at sea.

The best thing about Ft. Funston is you can find a spot all to yourself.  Put on your shades and forget anyone else is around....except your dog.

The girl in the picture is one of my best friends who is trying to snatch the camera away from me...  (revenge is mine Bernadette and ohhhh so sweet!!!!)

 5.  Sutro Baths - End of Geary Blvd (Pt. Lobos)

Another great place to get away from the crowds.  Ironically, Sutro Baths and the surrounding area used to be the center of recreational activity in San Francisco. Not sure why they called them "The Baths" as they were a series of swimming pools...  Also ironic is the fact that the end of "the baths" was brought on by a fire!

Here's the best part about Sutro.  Down near the ruins by the beach you will see a long tunnel.  When you walk to the other side of the tunnel it looks like it ends, but if you're sure footed you can climb right over the rocks and you will find a little secluded gem!

You sit high on the cliffs looking down at the churning waves as they crash against the rocks.  If the surf is big, you are in for a show.  When the waves hit hard they come shooting up so high you have to back up.  The sound of the water and the vibrations from all the crashing is hypnotic!  The clean ocean air is heavy with mist and fog....   There is no better place to meditate in San Francisco.  Nothing here will bother you but hunger...

Please continue on to Part 3 and don't forget to vote!  Part 3
