Buying Internationally

When I see that an eBay seller is located half way around the world from where I live, it gives me pause. I question whether or not I can trust a seller so far away and in another country. I imagine it's the same no matter which country an eBayer lives in.

I've traded with sellers in Thailand, Australia, Singapore, India, Japan, England, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Canada and probably serveral more I've forgotten to mention. Here are some tips about buying internationally:

1. Read the seller's feedback for several things--how many positive sales they've made; when auctions end and when buyers post feedback; is there praise for the merchandise and fast email communication and shipping?; is the shipping cost listed?; how much is the shipping cost?; how long did it take for the item to arrive?

2. Contact the seller BEFORE bidding to ask how long it takes for an item to get from their country to yours.

3. If paying by PayPal make sure to follow all the rules for reimbursement, including insuring the item.

4. Contact another winner of one of the seller's items and ask if they really liked trading with the seller.

5. Read the seller's My World or About Me pages if they have them.

All of my international trading experiences have been flawless. Some of my best trades are from international sellers. In fact, I received two items from Thailand quicker than I received the very same size items (rings) won the same day from two states away within my own country (USA)! First Class insured mail in the USA is the fastest, lowest priced, and most secure service in country.

In short, check the international seller's record BEFORE bidding. If they have a long list of positive feedback with super seller comments from buyers, don't be afraid to trade internationally. Some of the best items and service I've received are from many other sellers who live in distant countries.
