Having just recently quit the Wholesale Jewelry Business, I have decided to write a guide in several parts regarding the goings-on in the Jewelry Industry.

My hope and wish is to educate you - the consumer - about the inside tricks and secrets that make the Jewelry Industry what it is today.

My eBay Store features a wide array of Semi Mount Engagement Rings, Pendants, and loose stones. Stop on by and say hello!

 

Secret #1:

The entire Jewelry industry is really just a bunch of baloney! Everybody proclaims themselves to be a bigshot "Designer"; they brand their Jewelry like crazy - pouring hundreds of thousands of Dollars into advertising - and people start to believe that the "Designer" Jewelry is worth the sky-high price tag.

 

Well, let me tell you: gold is gold, diamonds are diamonds, and labor is labor. What I am trying to say is this: everybody pays the same price at the wholesale/manufacturing level! As long as they buy the same quality of what goes into the Jewelry, the finished product will cost me, you, and the "Designer" the same.

 The only difference is that the "Designer" can turn around and ask three times as much for his Jewelry, because he's been brainwashing everybody that his pieces are "special". It's just a marketing gimmick!

The bottom line is this: everybody should pay only slightly more than the cost of the "ingredients" that go into each piece of Jewelry.

 

Secret # 2:

Tag Prices are there to fool you! Tag prices on Jewelry are marked either "Key Stone", or "Triple Key Stone". If a ring is marked "Key Stone", and the Tag Price says $200.00, then the Jewelry store paid half ($100.00) for it. If a piece of Jewelry is marked "Triple Key Stone", and the Tag Price says $300.00, then the Jewelry store paid a third ($100.00) for it.

Now, I understand that every store owner has fixed expenses such as phone, electricity, rent, etc. But still ... to make a double or even triple markup on any product is just obscene. And I personally know of no other industry that has these price markups.
