This guide will show you what tools and items you will need to sculpt your own baby out of polymer clay. For more information on sculpting babies, be sure to read my other guides! This guide JUST LISTS WHAT YOU WILL NEED, NOT HOW TO CREATE ONE!

What you will need:

  • 1 pound brick or polymer clay (I recommend ProSculpt in the color: baby-- but, you can also use Super Sculpey or Fimo, or any other brand you can find. However, in my personal opinion the ProSculpt clay works best. You can purchase some from eBay user: gertrudesgifts who has the best prices and the best shipping I have found on the web and on eBay! You will not use the whole thing, but it's cheaper in the long run to get a pound of it at a time.

  • Acyrlic clay roller or pasta machine (dedicated for only clay use!) I purchased one from the craft store Michael's for about $14.99 plus tax. Or, you can order one here on eBay. But, MAKE SURE THAT ONCE YOU USE CLAY IN IT, YOU ONLY USE IT FOR CLAY!

  • The following tools: crochet hooks (various sizes); exacto knife; a pair of tweezers; assorted sized paintbrushes; toothpicks; 3-in-1 kemper tool (can be found here on eBay or through the seller whom I recommended for the clay); clay sculpting tools (you can get these at any craft store or here on eBay). Also, I personally like to keep a measuring tape or ruler handy, and I have also been known to sculpt using small flat head screwdrivers and any tool laying around the house I could get my hands on. I frequently use toothpicks which I have not heard of any other sculpter doing, but toothpicks work GREAT for certain areas like the nostrils! Also, dental tools are widely popular with the sculpting creators so I bought my set here on eBay from this user: etrademaxinc and they arrived VERY FAST! You will also want some triagle shaped makeup sponges. These can be found at any drug store, Walmart, etc. These will be used for painting later on.

  • Genesis Heat-Set Paints. I purchased a trial sized set on eBay for myself and these paints GO A LONG WAY! I bought mine from this eBay user who is the only one I could find to offer trial sized sets and it's the best way to go when you first start out: sassyone1953. She also gives you the exact colors you need for sculpting or creating a reborn so there is no wasted money buying colors you will not need nor use. These are expensive so make sure you take my suggestion and use her trial sized sets!

  • A Box of baby wipes to keep your hands CLEAN!
  • Glass eyes if you want your baby to have an "awake" appearance. Most new sculpters try their hands and making babies that are sleeping. It's easier in the beginning. But, if you want to make one that is awake, then you will need glass eyes. They are usually measured in milimeters and here's just an idea of what to expect. A 2mm glass eye (I recommend using glass. If you use plastic or acrylic it may melt in the baking process!) is TINY, so tiny infact that it's about the size of a pin head! So, for a 2 inch baby, you might want a 4mm, or even a 5mm glass eye. You can do a search here on eBay for glass eyes or here are 2 eBay sellers I can recommend: jncshop or Hello Goddess Doll Making Supplies.
These are the basic items you will need to create your first baby. Now, how to actually MAKE a baby out of Polymer Clay is a whole other story... or, er, GUIDE! Check out my other guides to learn the next step!

Thanks for reading and have a WONDERFUL DAY!
