Scott’s Catalogue - 1958
Old catalogues are always interesting to browse through. They contain only the old stamps and thus none of the modern exploit issues. Although the prices are out of date, the rest of the information- such as perfs, color, year, and watermarks, are still pertinent. It is a bit like browsing through the Scott Classic Catalogue.
The 1958 Scott was divided into two hard-cover volumes. Volume 1 was United States, Latin America, and the British Commonwealth. Volume 2 is Europe, Africa, and Asia. The great point of this year is that it is right before the 1960 and onward explosion of stamp issues and explosion of countries.
The modern volumes do have some advantages, principal among them is the images now are scanned, color ones of actual stamps. The black-and-white images in these volumes do serve their purpose well. Overall, I do recommend these catalogues.
