It's a sad fact, but true, most knife manufacturers have discontinued the manufacturing of knives in USA. Some by design, others by default. The Schrade Cutlery Company is no exception- the company closed its doors in 2004 and was purchased by a Chinese based company .They are attempting to market knives with the Schrade name on them now, but as any diehard knife collector or Schrade owner will tell you, it's like comparing apples and oranges. Now I'm not saying all import knives are junk, I'm not even saying all Schrade imports are junk ,but in my recent experiences, the imported Schrade knives I've seen fall way short of the originals in materials used and workmanship. This is very sad because Schrade built its reputation on quality and workmanship.
So be aware when purchasing "Schrade" knives, there is a reason people will pay 100 $ for an older Schrade knife, when a "new" one just like it will barely fetch 25 $. A few sellers omit the fact that the knife they're selling is made in China, not USA . Most do not, but if you've any doubt ,ask about it! The old adage of "You get what you pay for" often applies"
