 Schleich was founded in Germany in 1935 by Friedrich Schleich. The now famous figurines came to life in the 1950's. The idea was to provide consumers with true to life and meticulously handpainted PVC figurines and accessories. Schleich is now in its third generation of ownership.

 Schleich started off with the production of comic figurines including The Smurfs, Snoopy, The Muppet Show Characters and many many more. Today, the Smurf line continues with 50 individual models including the Brand New Indian Smurfs. There are also 10 models of Super Smurfs, 3 Accessory Models and 4 Smurf Houses.

 In the 1980's Schleich added animal figurines to the company. The Animals and Play Worlds they created are a true reflection of nature on a smaller scale. These span from the lost world of the dinosaurs to domestic and wild animals of present times. The design of these products are made as realistic and naturalistic as possible. This enables children to experience the large variety of nature - from domestic animals on a farm to wild animals in the jungle.

 Schleich offers a range of plastic figurines relating to Farm Life, Wild Life, Forest Life, Sea Life, Dinosaurs, Medieval Times, American Frontier and The Smurfs. Schleich products meet European and American toy testing and safety requirements suitable for ages 3+ for Children's play as well as the Serious Collector.

 A Booklet containing Scientific Information is included with the Sea Animals (scale 1:32), Prehistoric Mammals (scale 1:20) and the Replica Saurus (scale 1:40). The Replica Saurus also includes a human figure in the same scale to compare size.

 The scale of the Dogs is 1:12. The scale of the Knights is 1:20. The Scale of the American Frontier is 1:20.

 The line of Horses include 37 Handpainted Models. Some included are Arabian, Lipizzaner, Clydesdale, Pinto, Appaloosa, Palomino, Mustang, Quarter Horse & Shetland Pony. There are Horse, Mare & foals available. There are also many accessories to complement these beautiful horses. Riding Set, Western Riding Set, Dressage Riding Set, Vaulting Set & Show Jumping Set are available to dress up your horses. All riding sets include riders. There is also a Show Jumping Course, Dressage Arena, Pasture Fence, Horse Stable, Wagon and Horse Trailer.

New Smurfs for 2008 - Jubilee Smurf, Party Gargamel, Party Azrael, Surprise Smurfette, Party Smurf, Papa Smurf in DJ, Drummer Smurf, Bottle Smurf, and this collection will also be available in a 32 piece Display set.

The following Smurfs Have retired: Dracula Smurf, Ghost Smurf, Werewolf Smurf, Mummy Smurf, Grim Reaper Smurf, Frankenstein Smurf, Witch Smurfette and Pumpkin Smurf. The whole collection of the beloved Halloween Smurfs are officially out of production.

Brand New 2009 Smurfs come to us from the movie set and include: Stuntman Smurf, Smurf with Clapperboard, Film Director Smurf, Sound Technician Smurf, Actress Smurfette, Cameraman Smurf, Film Producer Smurf and Actor Smurf.

Retiring form the World of Knights will be the Tower, Wide Wall, Narrow Wall, Battering Ram, Blue Tournament Tent, Standard Bearer on Horse, Foot Soldier with Flail, Damsel of the Castle and the Phoenix. New this year will be Zahor, Zarok, Foot Soldier with Battle Ax and Foot Soldier with Throwing axe.

Retiring form the World of Elves in 2009 will be Surah. New for 2009 are Nimsay, Yasira, a new Surah, Antylar, Faraun, Nugur, An Elf Boat and an Elf Floral Umbrella.

Retiring from the Dog category are the St. Bernard, West Highland Terrier, Black Labrador, Golden Labrador, Border Collie, Jack Russell, Standing German Shepard. New for 2009 are a Male German Shepard, Male Golden Retriever, Standing Golden Retriever Puppy, Male St. Bernard and a Female St. Bernard.
