Ok, Ebayers...This is a subject that has bothered me tremendously the last few months and has been a matter of debate within my own household. I am writing this guide in hopes you will find it beneficial to you. Please share your findings with others and let's see if we can take this campaign and common sense approach to saving fossil fuels and reducing our dependence on foreign oil nationally.
What am I talking about??? Imagine if you will...a Country with no Drive throughs. Keep in mind every moment our gasoline powered cars engine is running we are burning a fossil fuel that cannot be replaced...Our lazy American lifestyle has permeated our driving habits...We sit at idol in drive throughs waiting for our 600 calorie burgers and milk shakes, our coffee and donuts, our medicines library books and much more. I belive that we can reduce our unnecessary fuel consumption and increase our physical activity level with a simple and common sense change in our daily habits.
In a not so scientific way I have monitored the decrease in fuel economy in my own vehicle by going through a fast food drive through in my very efficient 2007 Nissan Altima. I have personally experienced a 2 Mpg drop in fuel economy by going through a drive through once a day. That equates to 40 miles per tank! and at $2.85 per gallon at my personal average of 26 mpg It cost approximately 1.53 Gallons of fuel for a total cost of $4.40 for the convenience of having my food handed to me...
Needless to say...I will be boycotting drive throughs everywhere possible. I can only imagine how much fuel would be conserved if my challenge would go nationwide. I think we could:
-
Reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
-
Reduce wear and tear on our vehicles.
-
Increase physical activity levels having multiple benefits by reducing weight, improving productivity, improving health.
-
Reduced demand will reduce fuel prices thereby reducing the cost of transporting goods and services like groceries etc.
-
Joining me in this quest will cause you to think of other common sense approaches to conserving fuel.
I think this is a simple thing to ask of all the able bodied people accross our great nation. Park your car and walk inside to place and recieve your order.
Those who should continue to use drive throughs are:
-
Hybrid vehicle owners
-
Very pregnant women
-
Those with medical disabilities that include mobility issues
-
Mothers with young children in unsafe neighborhoods.
-
Anyone who is sick with colds or flu symptoms (keep it to yourself)
Please give your nod of approval by selecting "Yes" below as to the helpfulness of this guide! I'll know you are joining me in avoiding the drive through lines.
