Sarikecili clan is one of the seven clans of Kayi tribe that established both the Selcuq and Ottoman empires. Sarikecili people came from Central Asia to Anatolia in 11th century.

Sarikecili kilims have a significant meaning because Sarikecili clan is the only clan that has been continuing its nomadic life  until today. There are still some families living on the Taurus Mountains. These people live in "kislak" (winter village) on the Mediterranean coasts in winters and in "yayla" (plateau) in summers. Sarikecili clan has the distunguished black-goat hair tents and they migrate with camels. Therefore, Sarikecili people are the last representatives of the Anatolian Turkoman nomadic culture.

Flatwaves of Sarikecilis are made with the limited natural materials on the way of their migration such as plants, animal skins and hairs. Their weaving loom, called "istar" is unique, established according to the situations of their nomadic life. It consists of attachable parts and it is not heavy to be carried on camels.
These are the samples of the most well-known Sarikecili motif "diamond". The motifs are from my heybes, my family inheritance pieces, all of them were woven by my grandparents and grand gradparents. They are shown from the oldest heybe to the newest heybe. You can see that the 2nd and 3rd ones are nearly the same although the 2nd one is 50-60 years older than the 3rd one. The 1st one is the oldest one that is woven before my grand grandparents migrated to a place where people of Karakecili clan live. The interaction between the two people resulted in the motif which you see on the 2nd and 3rd heybes.

You can see my 3 heybes together:
