This is actually the second review I have written for the Samsung SyncMaster 220WM 22" LCD Monitor. Not exactly sure what happened to my first review, but it is no longer available on eBay. That is definitely NOT because I had anything horrible to say about this monitor. It is, in fact, a good quality monitor for the price (currently ranging from $120 for a refurb to $300 - though the average price I found was around $145 for a brand-new monitor in original and unopened box.)
The picture above does not do the monitor justice. The 22" wide screen LCD display is crisp, clear, and the color is vivid and sharp. (If you're having trouble visualizing the relative size of a 22" widescreen monitor, it's about the same size as the side of a gamer's desktop computer case, or about the same width and height as the front of a full-size microwave oven.) 22" gives you plenty of usable workspace to view multiple documents and/or applications simultaneously. I HIGHLY recommend a good graphics accelerator for your computer so you can take full advantage of the graphic quality this monitor is capable of producing.
Nifty features include the ability to connect to the monitor with an analog or digital cable - or both at the same time. It has an "auto" button that automatically optimizes the screen resolution for the capabilities of your system, but manual adjustments are extremely easy as well. The monitor is Energy Star rated; extremely light weight; and easy to move around, adjust, and keep clean. It may be hard to tell by the picture, but this is a sleek-looking monitor that looks anything but cheap - and performs flawlessly.
The ONLY negative thing I could possibly say about this monitor is that it is NOT a true-color monitor. Graphic artists and those whose work requires absolute precision in color calibration will want to look at a higher-end monitor... but if you're in that business, you already know perfect color calibration isn't cheap. If you're the average computer user who either works, games, or watches TV and DVDs from your computer, you will NOT be disappointed with this monitor. Colors are vivid and imaging is stable. In fact, if you use your monitor primarily for entertainment, you'll undoubtedly LOVE the Samsung SyncMaster 220WM's deep, realistic picture quality. Text renders clearly, even for those who work under fluorescent lighting or have astigmatism.
In terms of durability and reliability... I've had mine for two years now, and haven't had a single glitch. Not a single broken pixel. Two years on, the monitor is as good as new. For the price, you'll be hard-pressed to get a better value than this monitor. As far as I've seen, it is currently only available in black. It includes built-in stereo speakers. All cables are included with the monitor, including the analog and digital connectors, power cable, and audio connector.
