This is in fact an actual autograph of Bobby Orr, but here is some information sellers aren't telling you. First, it doesn't come with a C.O.A. Samsung gave out these pictures for free to anyone who bought a 32inch or bigger television set. $10 from every sale of televisions went to a charity. It is not the reverse angle shot of the famous goal, it is an entirely different photo altogether. And, despite the claims that this photo has never been released prior to Samsungs promotion is not entirely true. This photo has been seen before, but because of it's very poor quality it never got published. Samsung has taken this defunked picture which is very blurry and has added their logo onto the backboards in the background. Despite claims that this picture is valued at $400.00, it is a made up price to give this picture some value and make customers think that they are getting something special.
Although, as I have already stated, this is in fact an authentic autograph of Bobby Orr, you need to do a little research through one of your favorite search engines, and search for "Bobby Orr autograph picture" you'll find many authenticated pictures with frames of Bobby Orr and the infamous photo seen in newspapers around the world for less than the value of $400.00 So before you blow even a hundred dollars on this picture with frame, shop around, and you'll be happy you did.
If you find a seller selling more than one copy, I'd be questioning how he got so many. T.V's aren't cheap, so I am curious on how someone would be in possession of so many, unless of course they work in an electronics store.
Just need to add that FutureShop did a very bad "no,no" when they gave away these pictures without the purchases of t.v's. to staff members. Although FutureShop claims the picture is valued at $400.00, giving them away for free without the purchase of a television is against the rules of the promotion. The promotion was intended to raise money for Charity, one of them being Bobby Orr's charity.
If you seen the picture, and like it, and like the price offered for it, by all means purchase it. But, don't purchase it thinking one day it's value will increase, cause it won't. Remember, it has no C.O.A, which means anyone can make fakes of it easily. Not to mention of the poor quality of the picture!
Just need to mention once again. Whoever claims that this item has a retail value of $400.00 is lying to you. It does not have any retail value because it was only supposed to be distributed as a free gift for anyone who purchased a Samsung Television set. It was, and still is not intended for retail sale. Those who own several of them are more than likely an employee of an outlet that sells Samsung televisions. Future Shop has posted a retail value on their sight, and they should be ashamed of themselves for such dishonest tatics.
New News: I have recently contacted a representative of FutureShop and he makes the claim that the reason why they posted a retail price for this picture on their website is to discourage people from buying it. That's right, this was his exact words! They posted a retail price on their website to discourage people from buying it?! I smell something awfully dishonest here. I suggested that if they want to discourage people from trying to buy it then they first should start with removing the webpage in question. The only people who are benefiting from their webpage that lists a very dishonest and misleading retail price of $400.00 would be those who work for this company and are trying to sell them off on eBay. The consumer laws clearly state that unless an item has been previously for sale or intends to be for sale, you cannot assume a retail value. FutureShop should already know this. You especially cannot place a retail value on an item which was, and never will be sold. The only ones who are trying to sell these pictures are mostly employees of electronic outlets. You only need to add 1+1 to figure it out. I, myself own one of these pictures. I obtained mine as a free gift when I purchased a 72 inch LED t.v. I am not against anyone who might want to sell this picture, I am more interrested in exposing the deceitfulness of certain companies who have allowed their employees to take these framed pictures home and are now trying to sell them on eBay linking to FutureShop website to try to deceive people in believing this item actually has a retail value. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for this item, and that is an honest opinion. The frame is of cheap quality, and so is the photograph.
I will post more on this in the near future. perhaps I will also post the emails from the FutureShop representative as well.
Update: FutureShop has just removed their webpage from their website as I suggested they do. It's good to see that FutureShop has come to realize that it wasn't appropriate to post a retail value for an item they do not sell. This is a good start. I have also been informed that FutureShop's legal department will be looking into staff members receiving these framed picture without purchasing a Samsung television. Other electronic outlets that have yet to be named should take notice. If you or someone you know has received these framed pictures fraudulantly and are trying to sell them on eBay, they will get caught.
NEW INFORMATION: (Jan,2008)
There are several reprints of this photo selling on the market as original prints. They have been reframed in wooden frames like the original. I have seen one for myself and I can say that it's really tough to notice that the autograph and the photo is actually reproduction. You would have to open the frame and remove the picture to really get a good look at it to tell that it's not the original framed photo.
Also, very important! Some sellers choose to continue to try to deceive potential buyers by claiming that this framed photo has a retail value of anywhere between $300-$500 which is completely untrue! A simple check through a search engine will verify that this item has not been selling anywhere near that price. The most I've seen this item sell on eBay for is $115.00 but the customer left a negative feedback to the seller because it wasn't what was described.
Some Sellers are selling this framed photo with a COA. As I've stated before, this framed photo does not come with an official COA. Any COA that a seller states comes with this photo should be examined very carefully, especially if they are not an autograph authenticator.
