St. Benedict
Patron Saint: Latin translation of Benedictine means to "Pray and Work"
St Benedict was a devout Christian and remarkably pious man born to Roman nobility. During his younger years, twin brother (St. Scholastica) and himself were promising scholars. Benedict eventually left study in Rome due to his surrounding schoolmates' extreme lack of enthusiasm. Benedict found a warm cave and became a hermit studying Christianity on his own. According to legend, Benedict was fed by a Raven during this time.
A great many scholars made pilgrimage to the cave to study under him. It was said that Benedict had the ability to vanquish evil in all it's forms, turn pagan statues into dust at will and read minds as well as prophecy.
Thousands of Religious, Hospital and Scholastic institutions have been named after Benedict for his profound works. Over 10,000 Monasteries held his name before he died. The name Benedictine in Latin means to pray and work.
The Jubilee medal was supposedly forged by Benedict himself. Very little is known about the original medal. It is said that the medal has the ability to protect the wearer from a variety of unsavory situations such as: Temptation (protection from), seeing the devils lies for what they are, assisting new Mothers' giving birth, assurance in the last hours of ones' life, shielding from evil spirits and remedy from disease.
