Some folks may already do this, but if you fear using a credit card online here is a simple solution.
I have always been leery of using my credit cards or ATM debit cards online. Anything tied to my
bank account or high limit credit cards are subject to fraud. I’ve been buying and selling online for well
over 14 years now. Early on I did this and still do it today.
I have a second credit card with a small limit of $300 that I use for online purchases. That way I know no
one can get my number and run up a huge bill. I set it up to have a low limit, and if I intend to buy something
over my limit I over pay the card so I have a credit balance. It has worked for years.
I also do this with a second ATM card that is tied to my bank funds. I keep a small amount in a separate account
to keep it open, and when I want to make my purchases, I transfer the funds to that account so I have enough
for my purchase. This too has been a great way to protect my money.
Not recently, but in the past I’ve had my card numbers stolen online, they were actually easy to replace, and because
I had such small amounts on deposit / or low credit limit, I wasn’t impacted.
Hope this helps you curb your fear of spending with a credit card or ATM card online. It really works and
helps you to insure you don't get ripped off.

UPDATE, Okay so on 12-6-2008 someone accessed or hijacked my Paypal account, and had some money sent to themselves. I caught it the same day as paypal shoots out emails on purchases, and I had not made any that day. *** Where using an alternative account really paid off, is when paypal tried to transfer the money from my bank.... Because its a separate account with very little funds the transaction was denied by my bank, and I have the ATM card for the same account as my card on file with paypal, thus the transaction was stopped both by paypal from my filing a claim, but more importantly because my bank denied the transaction. I think they call that defense in sports.
Although Paypal quickly fixed the problem, it had been a long time since I had had one of my accounts hijacked. It amounted to $90, not a huge amount, but it felt good to be in control of the situation. And it was a lesson to me to make my passwords more secure. Paypal sent me out a special key code creator, that is suppose to help when logging in by creating a 30 second unique code for me to log in with. I've yet to use it, but since it all has been resolved I'm pretty happy that having my accounts set up this way really paid off.
Blessings, Max Rainet.
