Saddleseat is one of the most glamorous styles of riding. Over the years Saddleseat attire has been pretty consistent, but one thing that makes Saddleseat unique is the ability to customize a plain habit with subtle stylish accents.

Men's Saddleseat suits are fairly standard - using wool or wool blend fabrics in various pinstripes, plain fabrics, herringbones or even a windowpane. Small touches like the inside lining being a sharp contrast, a coordinating vest and sharp tie can add a dash of color and panache. These options of course apply nicely to ladies attire as well.

Ladies' options are quite different. For the ladies, Day coats are an option in addition to the traditional suit for classes before 6pm.  Ladies have more fabric choices for traditional suiting - in addition to wools and wool blends, there are many very affordable options in polyester.  After 6pm, standard suits are acceptable; however, formal attire may be preferred depending on the venue. Formal suits also should be worn with a wing tip shirt and a bow tie combination - vest or cumberbund. Normal suiting should be worn with a button down long sleeved shirt.

Day coats provide a multitude of color and fabric options. They are great for complimenting your horse's color or for setting  yourself apart from the crowd.

The Saddleseat habit is not complete without a derby or homburg hat. Snap brims for men are also an acceptable choice. Formal attire should be worn with a 4" brim silk top hat. All hat choices should be properly shaped. Nothing will make a habit look less sharp than an unshaped derby, homburg, or top hat.

Finishing touches should include underpasses for the jodphur pants - which should be extra long. Jod boots or patent jod boots should be clean and polished. Appropriate gloves - many people match their gloves to their habit in lieu of the traditional black.  I personally like to see a collar bar under the tie and either a very small flower or preferably a more modern option is a small lapel pin.
