Motorola Saber Keypad/Display Microphone
Motorola makes 3 palm mics for use with the Saber Vehicular Adapter or SVA (aka ConvertaCom). One is just a simple palm mic, but the other two have a keypad and a display just like what is on the front of a Saber or Systems Saber III.
These microphones are not DTMF microphones and the keypad and display only work with an SVA with either a Saber II or SaberIII (or their Systems Saber counterparts) inserted in the SVA. In the case of a Saber I, neither the display or the keypad will function. With a Saber II, only the top three buttons and the display will work.
The Systems Saber and satandard Saber keypad/display mics are FUNCTIONALLY identical. The layout of the display is different as well as the keypad layout, but they are otherwise interchangable. For instance the top row on a Systems Saber Keypad is: -HOME- -MODE- -LIGHT- and on a standard Saber is: -MENU- -SELECT- -ENTER-. If you use a Systems Saber keypad/display mic with a standard Saber in the SVA, the -HOME- button will function as the -MENU- button on the front of the radio.
All the keypad/display mic does is replicate the front of the Saber.
Use with Other Radios
The SVA keypad display mic will work as a basic palm mic with Radius and Maxtrac mobiles. However, the keypad and display will not work since it is not a DTMF mic even though it appears to be one. If you change the connector, it will also work with a Spectra. I have personally tested this interoperability with a Radius, Maxtrac and a Spectra.
