As a newbie golfer, I don't know a lot about golf and it's related equipment. As a woman and a shoe-a-holic, I do know shoes. Here's my review of the Bite Athena Golf Shoe -
WHAT YOU GET-
The Athena is a full leather golf shoe, and is also fully waterproof. Add comfort to that equation, and you've got a golf shoe that's worth a try. 5-hole lacing, a padded leather collar, and many other features combined with a slick yet classy look make the Athena shoe stand out in a crowd. Available in sizes 6 to 10 (with half sizes as well).

REAL FEEL-
I have a size 11 foot, but find that the Bite Athena size 10 fits me well. These shoes are a medium-narrow width, but fit a bit on the long side. The leather is soft yet supportive. The fit is snug, yet does not pinch or rub. I wear my Athenas either barefoot or with a moisture wicking sport sock for ultimate comfort and fit. Arch support is minimal, but fine for a normal instep. I haven't tried wearing orthotic inserts in these shoes, and am not sure if they would fit. Bite does make a shoe that is meant for orthotics, check their website for details.
PERFORMANCE-
The Athena comes with Fast Twist spikes, and they perform well. Traction is optimal on wet, damp or dry grass and turf. Walking in these shoes is very comfortable, the feel of the spikes does not resonate up through the shoe. It is easy to forget you are wearing golf shoes for this reason, and you could easily walk 18 holes happily (the weight of you bag, however, is a whole other issue!).
CARE, WEAR, and TEAR-
Bite recommends a minimal amount of care for these shoes. They suggest that you tighten the spikes before use, and that the waterproof leather uppers should be cleaned with a damp cloth and polished occasionally with a water-based wax. As with most golf shoes, Bite suggests that you let your Athenas dry naturally between rounds. Avid golfers may want an extra pair for this reason.
Bite claims that the Athena is waterproof leather. In my experience so far, I would have to agree - no leaking, seeping, or dampness has found it's way into my shoes (apart from the sweat off my own feet).
I haven't had to replace any spikes as yet, but the Fast Twist spikes are available through many sport retailers, and I've seen them at places like WalMart as well.
BOTTOM LINE-
Feel good, play better! If you're not worrying about your aching feet, then your game is sure to improve, right? Top quality shoes for a good price. Check EBay, and discount sport stores for the best deals. Shoes that are cosmetic seconds (with no functional problems, but some marks) are out there at super cheap prices. Even first-quality Bite Athenas are priced much cheaper than their comparable competitors.
