As a video store owner/operator I am very much aware of counterfeit movies and all. I only buy from reputable distributors who sell factory dvd's. Vhs is becoming harder to come by and yes, alot you find are dup's. Alot, of our so called pirated movies are coming from over seas. Recently a trip to a local flea market, I noted new release dvd's being sold that hadn't even hit the theatre' here in the United States. They were from Japan or someplace else that had been shipped here. After notifying the authorities and taking the person selling the Dvd's to court, the judge ruled that to prosecute the person for counterfeit movies, the owner of the movie rights, would have to be present in court to testify of the counterfeit merchandise. Being the owner of these rights were there, the judge dismissed the case, and right back on the street the person went, continuing to sell their bootlegg copies. Then we wonder why? the independent video store is fastly disappearing. No wonder!! we have to pay a average of $24.00 a piece for a dvd from our distributors. How can we compete when we have restrictions like you can't street a dvd until this date or that date. Then these counterfeiters are selling oversea movies at every road side stand, flea market for dirt cheap prices. There's no end to it. Then we are all perplexed over the bootlegged counterfeit copies on ebay. Goodness!!!! get real!!! its everywhere not just on ebay... and as you can see what does the courts do...dismiss the cases. Remember you have to have the person who has ownership rights directly to the movie before a court will prosecute... bootleg or whatever...
