Slinkys for shortwave antennas -
There seems to be some confusion and some wrong claims over how much wire IS IN a Regular Slinky and how much IS IN a Slinky JR used for shortwave antennas here on ebay so I thought I would clear it up so people would understand. Todays Regular Slinky has approx 65 feet of wire if you would be able to stretch it all out *Note when the Original Slinky came out in 1945 it contained 80 feet of wire*.. A Slinky JR has approx 29.3 Feet of wire if it were all stretched out in a straight line. Now if one were to use a slinky with just regular hook up wire with no ground shield for an antenna you would add the two together (slinky & hook up wire) to get the total length of the antenna because the hook up wire and the slinky would act together as one antenna, so for instance say you were using a Slinky Jr and 15 feet of hook up wire you would add the lengths together so t would be 15 + 29.3 feet so the total would be = 44.3 feet of wire. Now if you were to use coax with a ground shield with the ground terminated then you antenna would only be the lenght of the slinky Regular Slinky 65 feet Slinky Jr 29.3 Feet. Also if you were to use more than one slinky you would just add the lengths together to get the total lengths with lead in wire or with the coax.
