ANGELYN ROSE BOUTIQUE SHOPPING CART COVERS

Having trouble deciding which Shopping Cart Cover is the best fit for You and Your Little One? This guide will help you decide which features you should look for when choosing a Shopping Cart Cover for your most precious possession- Your Baby or Toddler!!

As one of the top sellers of Shopping Cart Covers on Ebay for the past 4 years, I know first hand that there are a lot of people who are selling cart covers on Ebay right now.  I imagine it might be hard for someone who is looking to buy a cart cover to decide which shopping cart cover would best fit them and their little one.  I have had a lot of potential customers in the past email me questions about the different features of covers being sold and what my opinion is about what makes a "GREAT" Shopping Cart Cover.  I have been very honest about my opinion (even when they have asked me about other sellers)  I have told them the features that they should look for in a cover, even if they decide to purchase a cover from someone other than me.  Some sellers offer less expensive covers, however, thay are lacking some of the key components that make a cover worth buying.

I thought it would be helpful for people who are trying to decide which cart cover to buy to list what features you should look for when you're searching through Ebay.

PLEASE RATE MY GUIDE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE WHEN YOU ARE THROUGH READING IT!! :-)

MAKE SURE TO LOOK FOR A COVER THAT IS AN "ALL-IN-ONE" COVER.... MEANING THAT IT CAN BE USED ON MANY DIFFERENT THINGS THAT YOUR BABY GOES INTO.  For example, MY shopping cart covers can be used on Public Shopping Carts (including the large warehouse size carts like those found at Costco & Sam's Club) Restaurant High Chairs, Park Swings, & mall/chain store strollers.  Some companies offer separate covers for the shopping cart & the restaurant high chair...but why spend more money when you can have a cover that does it all!

In my opinion, the most important things to consider when buying a shopping cart cover are the comfort and safety of your child.

  1. PADDING - Make sure that the cart cover is padded.  Some sellers offer covers that are only made with 2 pieces of fabric and no padding.  It's true....2 layers of fabric WILL keep your child from sucking on the cart handle, but how comfortable will they be sitting in the cover....especially babies who have just learned to sit up unassisted.  One lean to the left or right and *OUCH* on the metal cart.  Also, make sure that the cover goes over the ENTIRE shopping Cart Basket.  Here's an example of one of my shopping cart covers...You can see it goes over the entire basket and the padding is Plush and Comfortable:

2.  SAFETY BELT & BUCKLE - This is a major feature to look for!  What good is putting your child in a shopping cart cover if they are going to sit and suck on the germ-infested strap/buckle that is attached to the store shopping cart! YUCK!  You can see an example of my covers' Belt/Buckles below:

3.  POCKETS - Pockets are great to keep baby bottles and toddler cups in.  They are also a great place to keep coupons for mom or dad.  Some sellers offer a "Back Hidden Pocket" that is supposed to keep your child out of it....however, anyone who has a toddler knows that there are NO POCKETS that are toddler proof.   A child can easily reach behind them and pull things out of the back "hidden pocket".  My "hidden pocket" is known as my purse....that's where I keep the things I don't want my toddler to touch while I'm shopping :-)  My shopping cart covers have 2 pockets...one in the front of where your child sits and the other is on the inside side of the cover.

4.  TOY LOOPS - Toy Loops are WONDERFUL for attaching a Binky or a toy for your child to play with while your shopping or out to eat.  My cover's have a toy loop on the front pocket for easy access & also one on the pillow so it can be attached to the front pocket with a toy ring.  That way, your child won't be constantly throwing it on the dirty floor!

5.  PILLOW - A Pillow is not a MUST HAVE feature....but it is REALLY nice to have one.  I LOVED having a matching pillow with the covers I used for my sons.  I designed my shopping cart covers so that the pillow actually fits in the front pocket for those times when your little one gets sleepy.  I have a toy loop on my pillows so they can be attached to the toy loop on the front pocket with a toy ring.  Pillows also great to put on the inside of the cover for babies who are just learning to sit in the cart.

6.  WASHABLE & DRYER FRIENDLY - Some sellers offer gorgeous covers for close to $100 a piece, but they are dry clean only....come on....you'll be paying a $1,000 a year to keep that cover clean!  You want to get a cover that can be thrown in the washing machine frequently because everytime you take it off the cart, it has touched the gross surface on the inside of the shopping cart.  My covers are machine washable and can be line dried or put in the dryer.  (I prefer to put them in the dryer because they come out so nice and fluffy)

7.  STORAGE - Some people might not agree with my opinion about the storage of shopping cart covers...but here goes...I don't think you need a separate bag to keep them in.  I used to offer tote bags to keep my covers in, but honestly, it was more of a hassle to find the bag...keep putting them in and out, etc.  I know some sellers offer an "attached tote" to put their covers in.  Here's my experience with the "attached tote".....I went to Toys R' Us one day last year and saw a bin full of covers that said "cover folds up into itself for easy storage"...well, I took the cover out and TRIED to put it back "into itself".  I emphasize TRIED because after sitting there for what seemed like a decade- I pretty much gave up.  The problem with these types of covers is that you HAVE to roll them up in EXACTLY the right way in order for them to fold up correctly and close.....not to mention that most seller's who offer this type of "attached tote" also add that you have to have the belt strap in the right position at the top of the tote so it can be used as the carrying handle....YIKES....by the time you get it folded up you'll have to go home and take a nap from exhaustion!!  I now offer an easy roll up and go instruction with my covers which DOESN'T require having to be folded up and shoved into an attached storage bag.  It's very simple and easy to do.  Here is a link that shows my roll up directions:

ROLL UP & GO INSTRUCTIONS

8.  LEG HOLES - I've noticed that there are a lot of sellers now who have purchased a  shopping cart cover pattern that is "new" to the market.  The weird thing about the design is that where the leg holes should be is just a big open rectangle.  It's strange because the metal part of the cart that is located between your child's legs is all exposed and out in the open.  Correct me if I'm wrong....but isn't that where you want the most protection??  Recent studies done on the bacteria that's found on shopping carts showed that pee & fecal matter were found all over the basket seat.  My thought is the MAIN AREA that would be filled with bacteria would be the area on the shopping cart that is where your child puts their legs because that's where the "gross" stuff is going to hit.  A baby would definitely touch the exposed area in front of them with their hands and then put those same hands in their mouth.  My covers have round leg holes that are reinforced with matching bias tape for added durability (& STYLE)!  You can see an example below:

9. COST - Okay, Here's the BIG ONE....PLEASE don't be "fooled" by sellers who offer cheap covers.  The old saying "You get what you pay for" definitely stands true when it comes to Shopping Cart Covers on Ebay.  I can't tell you the number of people who have purchased a cover from me AFTER purchasing a less expensive cover from someone else on Ebay first.  They always have the same complaint....the cover pretty much fell apart after one or two washings and it was such poor quality that it was a complete waste of money.  The only way a seller can sell a cart cover so cheaply is that they are using CHEAP materials & the cover is lacking professional quality.  My covers are made with EXCEPTIONAL quality and style.....including things like all inside seams serged and great detail taken to all components of the cover.  You want to make sure to look for a seller that has plenty of sewing experience.

Over the years, I have seen shopping cart cover sellers come and go because you can only offer poor quality items for so long before it catches up with you.  I am TRULY PROUD of the Shopping Cart Covers that I make & if you look at my ebay feedbacks you will see that my past customers are thrilled with them too.  One of the *BEST* ways on Ebay to get an idea of which sellers you can trust and which sellers make quality handmade products is to review their feedback score (which is the number next to their ebay username name)  If you click on the number, you can review what past customers have said about their purchases from that specific seller.  With over 3,000 positive feedbacks & not a single negative, I have continued to grow my SAHM business with help from loyal repeat customers and MUCH APPRECIATED referrals from satisfied buyers!!
