VERY IMPORTANT SELLING TIPS for SELLERS

HOW to TREAT your BUYERS PROPERLY

I have had so many terrible experiences with sellers lately that I am compelled to write a guide about selling professionally - and honoring your stated shipping/handling/insurance quotes.

In just 6 weeks I have received 14 emails or invoices from sellers requesting EXTRA MONEY for SHIPPING and/or INSURANCE.  All shipping costs were clearly stated on all the sellers' pages, yet each seller later requested MORE MONEY.  Excuses include:

  • I underestimated s/h so now I need more $

  • Finally weighed packed item and found out that s/h cost will be more $

  • Took item to Post Office to send and paid more than I received from you so now I want you to send me more $

  • The Shipping Calculator appeared out of nowhere and programmed itself for a low amount - which is impossible

  • This item is fragile - so I am charging you for insurance even though the listing says "Insurance is Optional" or "Insurance Not Offered"

  • Some sellers simply change the amount from the listing and/or invoice to suit themselves - inflating shipping amount and/or insurance amount or handling - changing it from their clearly stated amounts in their listings

SELLERS - PLEASE UNDERSTAND:

Just as my winning bid (or any winning bid) is a CONTRACT to pay you - SO IS YOUR LISTING INFORMATION - WHICH CLEARLY STATES YOUR PAYMENT AMOUNTS and TERMS - including SHIPPING, HANDLING and INSURANCE

IT IS EXTREMELY TACKY AND UNETHICAL TO REQUEST MORE MONEY FROM THE BUYER AFTER STATING YOUR TERMS and/or INVOICING HIM/HER AND SUPPLYING A SET AMOUNT FOR SHIPPING

THIS BEHAVIOR CREATES TERRIBLE BUSINESS RELATIONS WITH BUYERS - AND CERTAINLY CAUSES BUYERS TO STOP BUYING FROM YOU - HOW CAN A SELLER BE TRUSTED IF HE/SHE CHANGES THE TERMS AFTER THE TRANSACTION ENDS?  WHETHER YOU STATE THE SHIPPING/HANDLING/INSURANCE AMOUNT WITHIN YOUR LISTING, OR INCLUDE A CALCULATOR - EITHER AMOUNT IS BINDING.

THE SELLERS WHO HAVE DONE THIS TO ME WILL NEVER GET MY BUSINESS AGAIN.

THIS UNETHICAL CONDUCT CAN CAUSE A SELLER TO BE SUSPENDED FROM EBAY.   IN FACT, YOU CAN BE REPORTED FOR THIS VIOLATION, REPRIMANDED AND/OR SUSPENDED.

PLEASE TAKE THIS GUIDE TO HEART (IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SELLING ON EBAY AND BUILDING CUSTOMER TRUST AND RETURN BUSINESS)

DO NOT PAD YOUR FEES

DO NOT RAISE YOUR FEES

HONOR YOUR CONTRACT

 SELL WITH CLASS AND ETHICS
