Sellers, it's highly advisable not to get in the eBay rat race of selling the latest popular books.
There are too many of them being offered on eBay at give-away prices.
You'll simply lose money putting the latest Dr. Phil book in your store and it takes it 3 years to finally sell at 5 cents. The fees over those years will counteract your overall profit. I learned this leeson with a John Kerry biography that I tried to sell a few years back.
You'd do better to find books that are about unsual topics or are just plain wierd.
A book about buidling your own ham radio station is more likely to sell than a Chris Rock biography, even though Chris Rock is more popular than ham radios.
Also, please avoid books about the latest events or politicians. Don't expect to get much out of your latest Obama or McCain book. Trust me, they are all over eBay.
People often act like like Lemmings, the birds which hurl themselves of cliffs by the hundreds. When people try to capitalize on popular celebrities and entertainers, they are acting like Lemmings.
There is a glut of Paris Hilton books on eBay and gosh knows there are enough biographies on the Beatles and Elvis.
Instead, try searching for really kooky, obscure topic like Groundwater Hydrology or a History of Lake Barge Dredging...I just made those up, but I promise you there's some person whose interested in these wierd topics and they can't find them on eBay.
That's where you list the book at a decent price and sell the items that the atypical people are searching for.
Generally, books that say on the cover "New York Times Best Seller" should be avoided.
Also avoid books that have glossy jackets that say "Over 1 Million Copies Sold!"
What really interests serious book buyers are rare topics like Lake Michigan Underwater Archaeology or How To Operate Your Motercycle Sidecar or Carving Log Benches from Red Cedar.
Another thing - stay away from books with copright dates past the year 1980. Millions of eBay Lemmings have got the last 28 years of popular reading thoroughly listed on eBay.
Remember the Law of Supply and Demand. Keep your items unique. The supply will be low and the demand will be high.
