More and more the scammers are trying to take your money.
The most common thing now is that a scammer hijacks an established, but disused eBay account. Then they list expensive items with a very low Buy-It-Now price, but demand that they be contacted only via email. This is because the eBay email will go back to the original account email that the scammer cannot access.
It sounds silly to have to keep saying this, but if you see something for a really low buy it now, with contact to be only via email, and the auction only runs for a three day period, the alarm bells should go off: If it sounds too good to be true, it PROBABLY IS!!
The scammers are moving into commercial lawn care equipment, skid steers, tractors, construction machinery, and auto service tools and equipment. I've seen Miller LPG portable welders for buy-it-now $500! Nearly new Dixie Chopper mowers for Buy-It-Now $800! Bobcat skid steers like new for $4000. 3-year-old Bayliner Capri with trailer for $3500. New waverunners for $1500. Haulmark trailers, a year old, for $1200. These are all ridiculous. The sellers only want to deal by email, say don't bid, email me.
These are almost always scams. If you send money you will get nothing.
Please do your due diligence before contacting these sellers. Check the feedback carefully. Double check what this seller is selling besides this item. If they have a lot of similar auctions, don't bid.
Please, let's all be careful out there!
