A little while ago I replaced our old tub/shower faucet. I used a model that advertised that it was a Scald-Guard model. That means that it senses the difference between the hot and cold water inputs and keeps them balanced even when a toilet is flushed or the washing machine starts filling. Since we had young kids that sounded like a good idea to me.
But, once I got it installed, I was irritated to find out that it didn't have a volume control -- only the temperature control. That really bugged me!
I don't usually run the shower full blast because I hate seeing all that expensive hot water going down the drain -- literally! We liked our shower head and didn't want to have to replace it with a water saver model just to cut back on the water usage.
Also, we use a shower fixture on a hose so we can wash the kids hair with it, or even the occasional cat... So you HAVE to be able to turn down the volume to a soft flow so you aren't spraying down the whole bathroom at the same time.
I searched for quite a while, thinking that there had to be an answer out there somewhere. And I finally found the answer to all my problems (at least the shower-related ones). I didn't want to go to a lot of effort -- we COULD live with it, after all -- and I didn't want to pay much -- I'm really cheap. But a shower flow control valve fit the bill perfectly. You can see one by clicking here -- Shower Flow Control Valve . So, for less than $10 and 5 minutes work, we can save enough hot water in a month to pay for it many times over.

- It takes literally only a few minutes to install -- you can't do it wrong
- Its so small you don't even notice its there
- The chrome body holds up in the bathroom and matches the chrome shower arm
- Its so inexpensive you pay for it right away in the hot water you save!
