SAMPLE SIZE VERSUS FULL SIZE
i.d. BARE ESCENTUALS BARE MINERALS
When choosing to purchase i.d. Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals, or any mineral cosmetics, there are a few things to keep in mind. How often do you change your eye shadow and eye liner colors? Do you change colors with the seasons? Do you purchase and or wear special/different colors during the holidays or for special events? Do you want new colors every time new ones are released? Do you like to experiment or try new things with your eye colors?
If you answered YES to any of these questions than purchasing a sample sizes of i.d. Bare Escentuals~Bare Minerals may be a better choice and be more cost effective for you in the long run.
A full size B.E. EYE SHADOW jar is a 10 gram jar and it holds apx. 1/2 of one gram of mineral content. Remember minerals are sold by weight NOT by volume. Samples are usually sold in 3 or 5 gram jars. PLEASE NOTE: a 3 gram/5 gram jars does not hold 3 or 5 grams of mineral content, this refers to the JAR SIZE, NOT the amount of mineral content contained within the jar.. I know this may sound confusing but this is how cosmetic jars are sold, by 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 60 gram jars.
i.d. Bare Escentuals~Bare Minerals are sold by numerous sellers on eBay and buying a sample size is a fantastic way to try out a new color(s) without spending a fortune. A full size eye shadow .02oz/.57g of mineral content is in a 10 gram jar. This full size jar of eye shadow should be enough to last you apx. 3 years. (This is according to B.E).
SAMPLE SIZES: Samples sizes can vary from seller to seller, always read the FULL DESCRIPTION or ADD before deciding to bid! Samples can be a 1/8 of a teaspoon, 1/4 of a teaspoon up to a 1/3 of a full size B.E. jar. If you still have no idea what these amounts look like in mineral content, I suggest you take a moment to measure out 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon for reference--measure it out and gently deposit the cinnamon on a plate--now you know exactly what 1/8 teaspoon looks like..(or any amount you choose to measure) .. An 1/8 teaspoon can give you 5 uses to 25 uses, depending on how heavy you apply or if you use as shadow or as liner. A 1/4 teaspoon may give you 20 uses up to 60 uses, again depending on how many times you apply or if you layer your color. A sample that is a 1/3 of a full size B.E. jar can give you 45 uses up to a full year of use. All of the above quoted samples sizes can vary due to a number of factors such as whether you foil your color ( this takes much more mineral content than using it dry as an eye shadow), how often you apply, how many times do you layer your color, do you use it as a shadow or a liner and what type of brushes you use to apply. Good quality brushes do make a very big difference when applying any mineral cosmetic. You can get a beautiful sheer wash of color with very little mineral powder.
The biggest mistake all new users make, is using to much, LESS is MORE when using mineral cosmetics. So depending on your own personal style, the brushes used, ways/techniques of applying, you may want to get the smallest size sample if it is a color you are really not sure of, but would like to try. You may want to get a bit bigger sample if you like to foil your shadows as this takes more minerals (Foiling is making a paste out of water and minerals, mixing the paste in the lid, then applying this with an eye shadow brush to your eyes as you would an eye shadow--FOILING gives you a high metallic sheen and a brighter bolder color then dry mineral shadow will). If you already know a color or colors you like, if you would prefer to use your money to buy a set of colors in the same color family (such as all browns, greens or blues) then buying the biggest sample size, 1/3 of a full size jar, may be the wisest choice and investment for you. Do you share your colors with others? Daughter? friends? Co-workers? Buying a LOT may be a wise way to go, because pooling your monies and buying a large set or LOT to share will give you the opportunity to try numerous colors without having invested your childs College fund to do so.
Sample sizes, the brushes you use, if you use alone or share your cosmetics, or if you foil or use as an eye liner. Take all these factors into consideration before purchasing a sample size. Would you rather have 50 full size jars collecting dust or would you rather have 100-200 or more jars/colors to experiment with? After all are you going to wear the same color every day for 3 full years? How many trays/compacts of eye shadows do you have in the back of your drawer right now? How many were fully used? Samples are also great for people new to Bare Minerals, as it is cheaper to practice with an inexpensive sample size than it is with a full size. Time, practice and patience will be worth it when you see the final results.. You may want to save purchasing the full size jars for when you find a color you simply can not live without.
If you are still not sure about a sample size, even after reading the full add, make sure to ask the seller any question(s) you may have. Most sellers are happy to answer questions... after all they want you to be happy with your purchase and to return to shop with them again.
