The following chart compares 2008 Bullion prices with the prices of 1908 "Uncirculated" NoMotto Double Eagles sold on eBay through August 2008.

Except for the last two columns, all the "Bars" are based on three month moving averages.

The last two columns demonstrate the the significant dip in pricing for the month of August only.

Again take a look at the Part IV Update to help you judge what's driving the bullion market, and what we can anticipate in the furure.  Very exciting times.

August Compared to July Progressions

August Bullion

 "UNCIRCULATED" NoMottos 

Down only -0.5%, Three Month Moving Average

But Down -10.2% Month to Month

 "Uncirculated" common dates continue to maintain their margins above bullion prices, now +10.0% three month moving, and plus 11.5% month to month.    

 August eBay sales of 1908 NoMottos (a common date) generally had better price results than bullion.  Though "Uncirculateds" were down 10.2%, the MS grades were down no more than 4.0%, and in fact the MS 62s were up +1.8%.  Though the trend looks less favorable than it did a month ago, I like the buying opportunities, and I still expect prices will find their way up by year-end.

So For Now, 

 I  will continue to buy on eBay U.S. Certified Saint-Gaudens NoMottos, Certified and "Uncirculated" Mexican 20 Peso Aztecas and 50 Peso Centenarios, and the American Buffalo.

WHY NoMottos ?

If you have been following my Updates monthly since April 2007, you will know I have been tracking 1908 NoMottos advertised in eBay auctions as "Uncirculated" and the MS grades since July 2006.

I chose the Saint-Gaudens design and the 1908 NoMotto year because of the "No Motto" history (refer to my me page), and because it is one of the better common date Gold Coin samples sold on eBay.

Prices are based on the LAST MONTH average on a minimum of 20 Coins, a 20 Coin Moving Average, or a 10 Coin Moving Average on 10 or fewer Coins sold on eBay each Month, whichever is most applicable.  Prices include estimated shipping charges.    

1908D and 1907 NoMottos will be summarized at a later date (as mentioned before, a much later date, though I do have all the raw data beginning July 2006).
