So you are thinking of starting to exercise but the thought of everything jiggling is daunting, to say the least.  Not only do you actually have to get outside (eventually) and run sometime, but not feel too self conscious.  I completely understand how you may feel.  Especially as a woman with a larger chest, you don't want to feel like you are flying around in all directions.  I myself HATE conventional sports bras, cause by the end of the workout they are soaked and like a straightjacket for me to squeeze out of, pulling it over my head (since they don't have traditional fasteners, usually a t shape).  Also, if you are a C cup or larger, an off the rack $10 "sports bra" will not offer you enough support and you will be adding embarrassing jiggle and painful bounce each and every step.  Even worse can be the deep red grooves left on your shoulders after removing the offending bra, sometimes even blood it has dug so hard!

So, what are your options?  I suggest several things.  One, get an idea of your actual bra size by either getting measured (aack, I hate it too) or looking at your most recent, well fitting bra and checking out the size.  We do change in size often, and older bras can stretch, that is why finding out your current size is so important.  Also, you can't expect to protect your assets (chest) properly with a sports bra if you don't know what size you need to start looking at.

Second, I'd recommend that you find your way to a sporting goods store that is big, well lit, and has a great selection.  My favorite is Sports Authority.  Strangely enough however, while there are two of them close by, one has an excellent sports bra section, the other's is pretty standard (aka, you will be happy if you are an A or  B cup only).   I went to a Dunham's and was also very disappointed to find they only have the outerwear type racerback sports bras, in otherwords, no heavy ammunition like I need!  The great thing about the SA is that they have great sales, great coupons, big selection with lots of sizes and styles and best of all "The Bra Selection Wheel" by Champion.  This is my name for it, but I love it love it love it!  You will too!

So, walk in to the SA knowing your current bra size, the sport you intend to use this in, and a coupon, if you are so lucky to find one in their Sunday ads.  I've had AWESOME coupons, like, $25 off a $100 purchase, $10 off $50 purchase, etc.  Due to this, they've gotten the vast majority of all my running equipment purchases over the last few months, lots and lots of $$!  I've combined their coupons with some great Champion sales they have, like their "All Champion sports bras $19.99" deal and fared extremely well.  Especially since one of the first bras I got there, the "Action  Shape" is normally $37.99!!

I like this bra because jiggle and wiggle factor are eliminated completely!  I found it using that wheel thing, where you enter in your activity to determine what level of bounce coverage you need and your size/cup size to help narrow down your selections.  What I do not like about the Action Shape are the marks on my shoulders, nor the "spillage" of the chest.  Another negative is that the stupid piece of material that covers up the hooks in the back never, ever can clasp shut, this may be due to choosing an incorrect  size on my part, but I have had the feeling the darn thing is cutting into my back after a long run (6+ miles), and the marks to prove it.  I do feel somewhat straightjacketed in this bra, but like I said, it is all worth it for the zero bounce effect.

I only bought 2 serious sports bras when I started running, and it just is not enough.  I tried to get more, but one cannot go to a Kmart to buy these...I tried, they are nice bras, just no motion control anywhere near the Champion, so they are regulated to "regular bras" category, not for running.  So I watched and waited for SA to have another coupon or Champion sale, and months later, this was rewarded.  If I'd known this would take that long, I would have paid full price, it is worth it.  Anyways, even though I have been running for a few months now and lost some weight, I decided to buy this next Champion bra in what I considered my actual size.  I overestimated and despite what the wheel promised, got a great bra, with wonderful coverage (no spillage!), very comfortable, etc.  The bounce control, however, is merely medium, if that, despite what the wheel recommended.  This second bra is very comfortable, it is one of their "Double Dry" wicking variety, model # 1216.  It's wonderful except for the bounce issue.  I feel like I need to wear another bra with it if I want to run at all far.  It has made me walk a few times out of embarassment already.  I feel like writing to Champion and crying my guts out!  Their website (just google it) is great, and has all sizes, I didn't find the wheel guide there though.  So if you don't find your size on the rack at SA, you can buy it at their website or go to Champion's.  C also has many models not carried by SA.

Here's my last recommendation, which I got from the highest authority, yes, Oprah herself!  She recommends the Enell Serious Sport bra, and while she has recommended a lot of things, this is the only sports bra I've heard her gush about!  The only drawback is the price, it is $54.  At this point, with my first ever marathon just mere weeks away, frankly, support is priceless and I am about to break down and buy one.  Maybe ebay?

I wish you the best of luck in your sports training, whatever it may be.  I also send you wishes of no bounce, no embarassment, and no pain from the needed support of your next sports bra.  Good luck!
