This is regarding Rosali fabric listings and household goods.  As a private dress-maker and soft furnisher for over 30 years along with many other crafts that I practice.  I have found ebay to be an excellent forum for the purchase of  fabrics from over-seas and in the uk.  These have included vintage fabrics as well as current fabrics in the market-place.

I have been somewhat concerned about people's perceptions regarding the Rosali Fabric and the usage of the Cath Kidston design name within the same listing.  I will be contacting one of the Cath Kidston stores where I have purchased fabric and goods to ascertain whether they indeed do have a design called Rosali (which I suspect they do).  I have done this and am now waiting to hear back.

The other fabric that is produced is not by Cath Kidston it has been produced by Ikea and as far as I have been able to ascertain there were two shades of the paisly pattern produced.

One of the pink paisley design and one of the blue paisley design both of which I have yards of at home.  However there is a distinct difference in quality between the fabrics.  Fabrics produced by Cath Kidston of similar weight are much finer weave (they have more threads in both the warp and weft).  Hence the original cost differential.

What does this mean? Well it means that the print quality will be better to start with (this is well known by individuals who practice printing on fabrics), this shows up in the detailing which unfortunately is not something that photographs can show very well. And secondly that in theory because of the tighter weave they should last longer.

Most listing do make a point of mentioning Ikea  but I don't feel this is sufficiently explained and could lead to disappointment.  There is a very close similarity in the colouring of fabrics produced by Ikea and some of the Cath Kidston fabrics which on first glance can be confusing.

I am not writing this guide to knock Ikea fabrics but to highlight the differences between fabrics.

 Rosali Pink fabric by Ikea

 Rosali Blue fabric by Ikea

Selection of Cath Kidston fabric (duck egg soft furnishings)

None CK fabric - soft cotton heavier weave, for example like close woven jean fabric with a softer fuzzy surface - not as heavy as CK duck egg fabric

Other NONE CK fabric, soft furnishing and vintage.

Some designed by me ancient and not so ancient sewing projects.
