On a beautiful summer day in Nashville in June 2005, I had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie Bowman and listening to him in the recording studio. It was thrilling to meet the man who had penned Brook's and Dunn's huge hit, "It's Getting Better All the Time". So impressed was I by his quite nature, unassuming personality, and genuine warmth, that when I returned home, I immediately purchased his three cd's: 1998's The Man I'm Trying to Be, 2002's, Starting Over, and his newest release (2005), It's Getting Better All the Time.
The day I met Ronnie, several studio musicians were getting together to record some demo songs. In the recording booth Ronnie's voice was smooth and strong. I did find that on his cd's, his voice isn't quite as strong as the day I met him, but it could have been due to the difference in the music. Ronnie's cd's are heavily influenced by bluegrass and have that great old time sound. The songs range from story songs to fun songs, to romance and heartbreak song. On his latest cd is a song entitled "Crazy Train", and it's been driving me crazy because I know I've heard that song somewhere and have been unable to place it!
I highly recommend these cd's to anyone who enjoys country or bluegrass music. He is accompanied by some of the best musicans you'll find anywhere. Plus he sings of his faith and writes of his love for his grandmother - and did I mention his eyes? Wow! I didn't want to be rude, but I really would have loved to have heard his story and know what makes his eyes so intense.
Ronnie's cd's were a nice change for me; I'm a hard core country fan. I enjoyed meeting the man and his music.
