Slow Operation.....

Have you ever wonder why, and specially why the Electric Window System on Silver Shadow has a tendency to be slow motion ......?

Well, there is may be a hint for you today.

As we agreed earlier in our previous lessons, theses Shadow  are sitting a lot more than they are made to.

They are so well built and the fact is: they are made to be driven, just like a Toyota is.

They are not made to be sitting and sitting and sitting......

Listen class, have you ever encounter on eBay , once and a while a seller description of his Electric Operating Window System on his Shadow, stating something like this....?

1. Window..... slow going up.....,
2. Window need help to go up....
3. Window not functionning at all, may be a fuse....., easy fix....

The fact is : This is not an easy fix!!!!!!

Listen student, in most cases, the problem is generated by the s i t t i n g of the car.

Now, the question is: Where is the problem?

Most of the time , the problem is located into the door post.

Yes! in fact , the problem is related to the sitting and resting.

When a Shadow is sitting for : not for weeks, not for months, but for years, all the component gets damaged, even in a temperature controlled climate garage.

You might say........:

Nothing new under the sun....., we knew all of that was said......

What's new??????

Now the question is:

How do we fix the problem? 

The first thing you may want to consider is looking directly to the wiring harness that is located and  make the bridge between the door and the door post.

It is always covered by a rubber booth and goes thru a metal u shape type tubing about 2'' height and hum!!! 1/4'' thick.

In order to be able to see that, you must:

1. Remove the door panel, that include the esturgeon and so on,
2. Remove all the electric plug ends to the electric window motor, door lock , window control switch, lamp. ( Don't forget to indentified at both end their location).A Little roller with numbers from 0 to 9 can do the trick.
3. Unscrew the metal bridge that interconnect from the door to the door post,
4. Remove the rubber boot cover.
5. Now this is he crucial part. You must extract enough wire from its metal protection and be able to visually inspect all the wires , one by one, to see if they are broken ;(in a case that the window don't opetate at all) or to see if the wires are pinched ( if the window goes slow either up or down)

6. In order to fix the problem, you will have to measure with a ohms meter the resistance of each wire.

7. Then after you found the defective wire, you will have to istall a welded bridge with a similar or higher grade wire Ex: # 12 guage; and heat the shrink tube before inserting again into the metal channel.

8. Some friends that I have as student in our shop class, did rewire , install a relay and then proceed to the reconnection.

9. O.K. it does work just like my technique....., but...., it does remove the originality of the vehicle, thus decrease the resale value..

10. Big deal...; will you say.....?

11. Well it is for the purist and connoisseur. The one that look for the perfect beauty and original.....

12. So the alteration must not be visible and the modification must work as new.

13. Naturally, before putting the door panel back into its place, why not give a spray of  ''FLUID FILM''It will make the operation of the window working operation a lot easier.

14. By the way, you can always spray some silicone greaseless into the window track.

15. And moreover, while at it; why not give a rubber conditionner treatment at the same time.
