I purchased a black Rolls Royce 1991 Silver Spirit II on ebay. I was told the condition was excellent. The car only had 37,000 miles. Within a week of recieving the car, the electrical system would short out, while driving. If it was at night, the headlights would even go out. I would be driving down the freeway, at night, no headlights, no tail lights, nothing except all the dash lights flickering on and off.
I finally checked the car into the Rolls dealer in Scottsdale. They kept the car for weeks, trying to locate the problem. The finally tracked it down to a loose wire, hanging down up under the dash. While I drove, it would hit metal, stick to it, and short out everything. They informed me that electrical problems are normal in Rolls Royces, it's just something you deal with. My repair bill was quite large, and the dealer stated that I will soon be in need of upwards of $20,000 in repairs.
Quite a different story from the excellent deal on ebay. Also, the entire car had been repainted, a lousy paint job, complete with overspray and orange peel everywhere.
I recommend that anyone considering buying a Rolls on ebay should inspect the car in person. The cost of an airline ticket and a hotel is nothing compared to what you may soon be spending should you buy a Rolls sight unseen, as I did.
