I am 6'2" and have recently been re-enlisted into the Boy Scout Program as a scout leader. Time to gear-up after 25-years of non-scouting activities.
Was looking at the Eureka Pinnicle Pass 3XTA, some similiar Kelty's, North Face and this Horizon 3.
I choose the Horizon 3 for these Reasons:
1) The rain Fly covers the entire Tent and still has vents at the top that pulls circulation from the bottom floor of the tent. The Eureka's rain fly does not cover the entire tent. Therefore the Horizon 3 is more like a 4-season tent.
2) The Horizin 3 Rain Fly has a Window in it to Allow light.
3) The Horizon 3 at $122.00 w/ Shipping was significantly less than the Eureka Pinnicale Pass 3XTA.
4) The horizon 3 included the Mess Dome Loft (for your Gear) and a footprint with the tent for free.
5) The Horizon 3 does not have plastic clips that attach to the poles. These have broken on me with other tents before.
6) There is plenty of room for two people plus their packs. The two vestibules provide plenty of additional space for more gear.
The negatives of the Horizon are:
1) The entire tent, fly, mess loft & foot print weigh a total of 9-pound, 9.5 ounces.
2) The minimal weight is about .75-pounds heavier than the Eureka Pinnicle Pass 3XTA.
Overall, I am quite happy with my purchase. When I compare this tent to the many Northface, Kelty & REI tents, I feel like I have the majority of features for significantly less cost.
